Taming of the Shrew

I apologize for not writing for so long! My life has taken a busy turn, and I have felt unsure of whether others would be interested in the stuff I'm writing for my current writing course. It's a Shakespeare course, and I love it, despite the entensive study it requires.

I live on the coast, by Catie M.

Hi - My name is Catie and I am 9 years old. I live on the coast about 1 mile from the beach. Today we saw about 11 bottlenose dolphin frollicking near the shore - very near. It seemed that they wanted to play with us, too.

Living near the ocean is great because it is cooler in the Summer and warm in the winter. There is a long bike trail that goes all along the coast. It is lots of fun to ride bikes there. I have a little sister (2) and brother (1). They are so much fun to play with them whenever the day seems sad or dreary. They can always make me laugh.

Green Eyes

At 8:29 this morning I must have flipped the "off" button on my alarm. I woke up at 10 (as usual) and (as usual) grimaced at the clock. I haven't been so punctual in my waking this vacation. I just lay in bed and started reading the latest Dostoyevsky novel: The Possessed. I read The Idiot this summer and Crime and Punishment the summer before. Not what you would call light reading! Then the phone rang, and it was for me. Who would call me at 10am?? It was my friend Dan. He was on 495 going north toward the Manchester airport, and his car had died.

Every morning, I wake up, slowly get out of bed, and get ready to start my day. Sometime around eight o’clock I head to my desk and I begin my assignments for the day. My mom reviews with me my lesson plans and then she heads downstairs to do her morning chores. Around one o’clock I finish my schooling and begin my chores. At four, my dad comes home and we talk for a few minutes and then we go our separate ways, doing whatever needs to be done before the day is through. By the end of the day I’m exhausted and I’m ready to go to sleep.

An American Symbol, by Jon W.

Flapping proudly in the breeze, the Stars and Stripes, the American flag, symbolizes America--freedom. Over the years the flag has changed as more states joined the Union, but its basic design has remained the same. In the upper left hand corner the flag has a blue rectangle. White stars, one for each state, lie amongst the blue. Thirteen red and white stripes make up the rest of the flag, and these stand for the thirteen original colonies.

Do you ever walk down the street and see a boy or girl wearing outrageous clothing? I see it everywhere - streets, shops, parks, restaurants, cinemas, and everywhere else. Why do people feel the need to wear this trash? I believe that modest, moral clothing is the best you can get. If you want someone to notice you, be yourself! Clothes do not make you prettier because they show off your stomach, or they're famous brands. Clothes should reflect your personality, which shows you a lot about today's culture. Either people are smothering their personalities, or they’re corrupt.

Flashing lightning,
roaring thunder,
pelting rain falls on the sea.
Waves that dance and wind
that sings;
"Child of heaven, come to me."

Dance the earth in every instant
sing the fire evermore
catch the raindrops now and
always
glimpse My hand at
heaven's door.

Dance with children,
kiss your neighbor,
Hold the dying in your arms.
Crowned with flame and
bearing mountains
cleanse you life with all
My tears.
