Vying for Volunteers

Submitted by Sarah L on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 13:54

In Fredericksburg, Virginia, an exceptionally historical town, people may visit George Washington’s birthplace, numerous 18th century houses, Civil War battlefields, and the historic downtown. This town, though small, flourishes with a veritable richness in its historicity. It provides the local people with numerous opportunities for community service. Volunteering in a local neighborhood displays the love of Christ and a willingness to serve in this century when people focus enormously on themselves.

The Value of Bible study

Submitted by Sarah L on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 13:51

Many of my friends and me included, have carried a Bible around since we turned old enough to read. Whether we knew what to do with it, or actually read it did not really matter as long as we got a sticker for bringing it with us to church. I only started to appreciate and love to read the words of the bible when obeying God became the main goal of my life. His words came alive to me. God’s Word links me the closest to something substantially representing God.

Rebel Against Rebellion

Most people would correlate the word “rebellious” with teenagers. All parents have a reasonable fear of the time when their cute little tykes will become big, rebellious teens. Today’s teenagers resent authority of any kind, especially that of their parents, and that explains the sole reason for their “rebelliousness.” Jesus says, “Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee” (Exodus 20:12 ASV). This verse banishes any of the justification that teenage rebellion has to occur.

Explaining Away God

Submitted by Andrea on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 19:45

I often wonder at how blind people can be to the truth. How they try to explain away acts of God as merely coincidences. Take Jesus, for example. Often people try to say that He was just a "good teacher." And yet He claimed to be God. John 10:30 "I and the Father are one." Let's look at that. There are three possibilities. 1) Jesus claimed to be God while He knew the whole time that He was not. That makes Him a liar. Hardly a "good teacher." 2) He honestly believed that He was God, even though He wasn't. That makes Him a loony. Also not such a great teacher.

Broken Glory

It's the rage of all the ages

it's the cry of all our hearts

it's the sin that drowns the beauty

tearing us apart

It's the ache we feel with silence

it's the voice that goes unheard

it's the times when we are troubled

it's the times we're not assured

It's the helpless little babies

it's the blessing never known

it's the line that needed drawing

it's the the love never shown

It's the heart that bleeds with longing

it's the times we're far away

Help!

For a while now I've been thinking about writing a story about superheroes. Don't ask me why, I just like them. :) But anyway, I've come to a problem. I want to use creative superpowers, but all the good ones are taken already. Witness Superman, Spiderman, The Human Torch, The Invisible Woman, The Flash, etc. Any ideas?

Hi. My name is Andrea, as you can see. I just learned about this site from one of my brother's Potter's School teachers. I checked it out and decided that it would be much better than livejournal, myspace, xanga, etc. So here I am.

Our God, A Missionary God

Submitted by Sarah L on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 20:10

God calls all people that believe in him to tell others about his glory. Many people do not believe that this call applies to them anymore. Our whole Bible constitutes a long story of God’s heart for missions and a call for every believer to take an active part in sharing the gospel. Everyone knows the New Testament “Great Commission” verse, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19-20 NASB).

The Dating Game

Submitted by Jenny on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 19:21

I was reading articles online the other day and they reminded me why I spent my youth differently from my peers. I have never understood why our current culture is so "into" the dating game. It is entirely illogical to think that spending years going from relationship to relationship during your youth will somehow prepare you for the reality of a marriage relationship.
