Chill

Submitted by E on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 18:30

The bitter cold chilled her to the bone in that dark alleyway. The baby in her arms cried and wailed, tears streaming down her red cheeks.
Robin, the mother, sighed and rocked her gently in her stick-thin arms. “Shhh…My Hope,” she whispered. The babe continued to cry, most likely cold from the winter stillness.

There's A Life

Submitted by Hannah W. on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 13:44

What is this place?
Should we give up the fight?
How long will it take
to fully put out the light?
'Cause sometimes it's like I'm drowning,
while I'm lying here in bed,
and I wonder if you wake up
from dreams of those already dead,
and I wonder if you feel so sharply
each beat of your own heart
If you had to use your own hands,
soft and smooth as they are,
I don't think this would be happening,
but we hide inside the dark
The shadows are so comfortable,
even though there is no comfort anymore

Missing Face

Disappointment
Sinking slowly when
All I see isn't him
That expected face
Long-awaited, even
Promised
No warning
No justification, just
Gone
His missing face
Steals my joy
His missing face
Builds my frustration
His missing face
Snuffs my hopes for today
And raises my hopes for tomorrow

Government Inefficiency

Submitted by Nathanael on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 03:11

Many foreigners come to the US seeking advanced medical care, unavailable in their home countries because of improper care or no care at all. Yet the media cries out that we, America, should also form a system like those inferior government-run systems of European countries.

Just as the government‘s IRS doesn’t make paying taxes any easier, so would government-run health care provide poorer quality care than the private sector.

The Glass

Submitted by Bernadette on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 02:33

The glass of spring was brightly shining
When laughing flowers
Were twining about it,
And the grass grew tall
In the rippling wind.

The glass of summer was standing nigh
When blue cold waters
Were dancing inside,
And the moss did climb
In the golden sun.

The glass of autumn was burnishing bronze
When frolicking leaves
Were swinging in air,
And the trees did lean
In the chilling breeze.

ghost story that is still untitled, chapter one

Submitted by jemiteaser on Tue, 05/19/2009 - 23:57

Chapter 1
The house was beautiful. It was a bit big for two people, but it was so traditionally English looking, Emma and Jennie couldn't pass it up. They didn't realize that two ghosts resided there: one was nice, one was........not so nice.
Settling in was easy for Emma, not so much for Jennie, who was feeling lonely. To make things easier, they got a cat, which they kept in the basement.
It was when Jennie was trying to settle the cat (named Romulus) in his little box that she first heard the whispers.

The Poor Little Goat Chapter Two

Submitted by Lexus on Tue, 05/19/2009 - 17:42

When Dots was taken off the bottle, he would cry and cry. In the morning, in the afternoon, and at night. The ramming from other goats continued, but he was so used to it, that it didn't hurt so bad. He even made friends with the other kid goats. But a couple months later he didn't feel so well. His owners tried to give him a bottle to make him feel better, but he just wouldn't drink it. His owners were very worried about him and rushed him to the vet as fast as they could.
