The Firefly Faries: Chapter Five

Thorra ran a brush through her long silky black hair. With one swipe of a makeup brush, two perfect red spots appeared on her cheeks. A few flicks of her wrist and her eyelashes were darker, making her dark brown eyes show up. She dug through her clothes, looking for something decent to wear. Still in her pajamas with the words, "Love my grammie," on them, she would have looked funny going to the last day of school like that.

The last day of school.

Hush-A-Bye

I wanted to write a lullaby that I will someday be able to sing to my someday kids... I wanted to emphasize the roles of men and women, and also incorporate some of the things my parents and grandparents used to say/sing to us (the last 2 verses, they aren't original as some of you may know...). I wrote music for it, you can find it here: http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/9771c8ecb955951120ebf4dad6fec6c2a20001ae

Rynere wasn't quite sure what to make of this.

One one hand, she didn't want to leave Tari behind. She and Tari were kindred spirits. That wasn't something she was willing to give up easily.

And then there was the rest of the village -including Aunt Myrda. Rynere wouldn't miss them. Tari was the only one who had any jolt of actual sympathy for someone who didn't have any family to depend on.

Old Soldier, My Soldier

Old soldier, My soldier
They’re saying you lost this battle

It’s time to pass the gun
Arm your sons now
You’ve always shown them how
To follow Me in battle

Old soldier, My soldier
Come for your medals
The world’s not worthy of you anymore

They’re saying you lost this battle,
But soldier, My soldier
You won!

The war was fought long ago
Before your sons
Before your birth
Before the stars
I won it
And every war that counted
I won that,
You won it too

What do you see?

Is it a tree?

A tree has branches.

A tree has leaves.

It does not have a

nose.

How do I know?

I do not.

Does the thing you see have a nose?

GASP!

If a tree has a nose,

why am I still breathing?

Answer me quick!

Life or Death!

Does the thing you see have a nose?

Oh noes.

We're doomed.

All I can see, see is your face
Just what I did, did not want to see.
Now all I can be, be in this place
Is a ghost of what, what I wish we could be.

All I can think, think is a thought.
The thought it tortures, tortures my brain.
Now I dig, dig the memories forgot
And sit, sit and simmer in pain.

All that I wish, wish to believe
Is that every, everything is alright.
But still I can, I can clearly see
I will be, be alone tonight.

Perfection's Lie

I've heard of the perfect prince
why is it that he doesn't exist?
perhaps it is because I would miss
those living in realness

if perfection was everyday
than I would probably walk away
from the poorest of the poor
I'd close that opened door

if holiness held no meaning
than what would change my mind
from living for myself instead of Christ
just reading feelings?

if love was just a word
then what difference would it make
if it was give and take
and un-armored

Quest for the Treasure, Chapter 7

Emily and Chandra flopped down onto chairs.

I’ve never cleaned so many dishes in my life!” Emily exclaimed. “Oof!”

That’s what happens with four males in the house, I guess,” Chnadra said, grinning wearily. “Hungry ones, at least.” She hauled herself off the chair. “Come on. Mama needs help in the garden.”

They trudged wearily to the back gardens. Xenia was on her knees, pulling weeds. She was wet with sweat and grimy with dirt. She gave them a gentle smile.
