Prophecy of Matthew Torrent ( formerly prophecy of a father) part 5

Submitted by Kathleen on Fri, 12/23/2011 - 08:05

The first place he hid were the caves. They were dark, which meant he could hide easily here. There were, of course, rumors about its inhabitants. But those rumors were the least of his worries, and it seemed to him that those rumors would keep unwanted visitors away. Not that he was unwanted, no of course not. What could be more welcome than a religion and prophecy defying rebel?
He shivered, and hugged himself to generate warmth. He slept and then awoke. He could feel a strange presence. Make that several strange presences.
He pulled out his laser sword.

Comrade Song: One of Three

This started out as a submission for Mary's contest (http://enterthewriterslair.blogspot.com/2011/12/announcing-first-ever-writers-lair.html), but it was too long. It’s a Christmas story, as you can’t tell from the title, but it’s also a lot of other things. So…onwards and upwards.

My Dear Sister-Chapter One

Submitted by Laura Elizabeth on Wed, 12/21/2011 - 21:59

Hello, everyone! I'm afraid I haven't posted anything in a long time, but hopefully this will make up for it. November was filled with writing absolutely nothing but my NaNoWriMo novel, but after that I put up Red Sea Rising and began working on a Narnia fanfiction, the first chapter of which I present here. I had a wonderful beta reader on Fanfiction.net edit these for me, except for this chapter.

These are letters between Susan and Lucy not long before and up until the train crash in The Last Battle. I hope you enjoy them!

Letter One

Dear Susan,

Quiet Accomplishment

Well, today I had my voice recital. I sang two songs. "Grown Up Christmas List" and "Someone Like You" by Adele. And Oh! Were my knees shaking...but I managed. :D And I was pretty happy with what I did today. But the best thing was hearing that someone was crying when I sang "Grown Up Christmas List." Google the lyrics--they're great! Hopefully they weren't crying because my singing voice ruptured their eardrums, but if they weren't, then I'm glad I managed to make someone happy today. I couldn't have asked for more.

All The Nights That Could Have Come

Submitted by Tamerah on Thu, 12/15/2011 - 21:37

Here I’m mostly tired,
waiting for the moon
to fill me up
with iridescent light,
to be a vessel pale and glowing;
to become more than my body,
more than my thoughts.
Even when asleep
I wish I could sleep deeper,
more soundly,
to sink into a dark and restful chasm,
that I could stay that way
for months and hibernate
all the moments you’re away.
You said I could never know the moon,
could never hold the moon
in the paper-thin folds of my skin,
but what do you know?

Apricotpie Absence

Submitted by Jackie West on Wed, 12/14/2011 - 23:41

Dear Readers,

My apologies for my absence over the past month and a half or so. I have been busy with NaNo and other things on the computer-and high school isn't as easy as it looks. :) I'll hopefully be returning soon, if I manage to finish my NaNo novel soon, and continue to work on the books I am writing on here.

Ice Eyes, Chpt. 2

Kaitlin walked back to the house, not really thinking about where she was going, and found herself lying down on her bed. Then she remembered what her aunt had said about her family and the events of the day overwhelmed her. She threw herself face-down on her bed and cried. She fell asleep with tear tracks down her face. Completely exhausted, she didn't see the shadow creep across the room, nor did she feel the soft touch of a hand on her cheek, and did not see the clear blue eyes that stared sadly down at her like chips of ice.
