Comrade Song: Two of Three

Two of Three
Anita’s hands lost their grip on anything but air. She swayed, but she seized rope rail before the cliff fell away under her feet. The darkness seemed to hit a wall a long, long way across from her. She tripped back from the edge, hyperventilating.
The sky flashed. Anita’s hands flew to shield her eyes against the symbol lit on the opposite cliff. It was like two triangles kissing or a bowtie. A long, deep note sounded and lingered, a horn of alarm.
“The rune of emergence. They’re coming.”

I wonder...

I wonder where you've been

Each and every day

Are you sailing on the sea?

Or wandering far away?

I wonder if you're happy

Each and every hour

Does your new wife make you smile?

Or does she make you sour?

I wonder if you have kids

Every single minute

Did you name them what you wanted?

Or did you just forget it?

I wonder if you miss me

Every single second

Because I love you dearly

And you do me, I reckon

I wonder if you'd take me

It was evening of the next day. Adelaide was restless. She could not forget the visible strength of the man who had saved her. It frightened her. Never had she seen a soldier of such built and such serious demeanor. Revocatus, assuredly, possessed grave features, but his presence bore warmth. And Lawrence was gentler and his gravity came from something deeper within him. She dreaded the meeting that was to occur that night.

Into Winter

p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; the temperance of fall

braces the world

for the roaring winter

when the winds howl

their cold songs to

the slumbering earth

beneath a crystal blanket

the night sky glitters

sharply in the frozen

breath of winter

while the trees shudder

with the weight of

her ice cold fingers

on their limbs

winter tumbles over the world

sometimes silent like

a shadow on the ground

sometimes wailing like

a desperate mother

Hello AP, it's been a while. A long while in fact. But I only just had an inspiration to write this up today, and wonder what you all think of it. Does it make you want to read more? Do you want to know more about the characters? I'm thinking of turning this in a serial, but want to know if anyone would be interested in reading it!

'Why are you crying?'

A Christmas Poem

Submitted by LoriAnn on Sun, 12/25/2011 - 16:50

Across this desert land we came

With laden backs and heavy loads

We didn’t have an easy trip

No simple paths or painless roads

But standing here, outside the house

We share an anxious smile

Will what we find inside be worth the while?

We fear to find the truth

It’s such an odd and crazy thing

The truth: Might we be wrong again somehow?

It seems too ordinary for a king

But no—it’s too late to turn back now

You

She's stepping through a wall of water.

Glass shatters, plink, plink, around her wearied feet.

She feels like she's been walking far too long.

Out with the old and in with the new, right?

She wants to let it go.
