Will You Save Me?

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Tue, 02/14/2017 - 01:55

here i am, Lord, hear my plea
broken deeply, never free
lacking strength to even come
hither to Thy throne above.

wretched sinner, such as i
will you take me, here, tonight
save a sinner, mend a soul
will You make my shattered whole?

splintering my hardened heart
splitting shackles clean apart
cleansing my will to be Thine,
will You rest a wearied mind?

will You turn this life around
hell to heaven, skies from ground
turning night to brightest Day
will you lift me, now, today?

The Nights

Submitted by Gina I. on Mon, 02/13/2017 - 05:31

Sleepless nights are because of the rain
When I smile so much, I'm hiding my pain
Crying only heals the smallest of hurts
And I can't help but laugh
When there's nothing to gain

What's wrong with me?
A paradox twisted with agony
What's wrong with me?
I spread my wings
Even though I'm not free

Sleepless nights are because of the days.
We wish and we hope but nobody prays.
Running only hides the weakest of fears.
And I wish I could change
But my heart is a stone, solid, unfazed

Give Me The Horizon/Give Me A Hill (Poem Collection)

Submitted by Madalyn Clare on Mon, 02/13/2017 - 01:57

Give Me The Horizon

Give me the horizon of sea and stars.
Give me the horizon- it's so very far away.

Reach for my hand and take me to where you are.
Where you are, my dear, evermore, I think I’ll stay.

The shadows that chased me far
Have been cast behind.
The light is before me,
And the dark - a trouble to go and find.

Never more running!
I’ve no need to hide!
No need to go,
Don't say goodbye.

Multiple Intelligences & a Liberal Education

Submitted by Hannah D. on Fri, 02/10/2017 - 17:50

Dr. Kathy Koch has spent her career using Dr. Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory to help kids fight low self-esteem and take control of their own education. A quick overview is in the following list. You may have any combination of them as preferable methods to use when you learn.

Linguistic Intelligence - you like words, how they sound, how they interact together. You like reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.

Mathematical/Logical Intelligence - you like thinking in terms of logic and numbers. You like puzzles.

Masterpiece

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Fri, 02/10/2017 - 06:26

I want to make a work of art
To come across as smart
I have word goals
I have tongue coals

Ideas burn cerebrally
Come alive incrementally

Burning midnight oil
I slave and I toil
Write in waking hours
Dream of novels in my sleep
But these dreams though sweet
Will not eternity for me keep

You see if I slave for years
Write for decades
Or sing for ages
All I've done is nothing

Relativism

Submitted by Hannah D. on Wed, 02/08/2017 - 16:44

Relativism is often summed up with the phrase, “There are no absolutes.” Which, of course, is an absolute statement. So it refutes itself.

Seems like a trivial enough philosophy. At least it did, until I took “Philosophy, Science and Religion” from The University of Edinburgh, a MOOC at coursera.org. In it, the professor outlined a couple different forms of Relativism, some of which forced me to take it a little more seriously.

Neither Am I Worthy

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Mon, 02/06/2017 - 03:55

Neither am I worthy
To go as He didst go
For I in faith to lose myself
Would be not such a woe
And so now I am waking up
As I am put to sleep
Mine eyes are op'ed and lifted up
As physic'lly are my feet
So mercy rains upon my head
And Love looks down on me
While hands are pierced as His once were
And peace makes fear to flee

For me to die is such a gain
I dared not hope to have
While death's sharp sting is cancelled out
In light of His pure blood

~*~*~*~ I Shall Wear White Flannel Trousers, 9

Submitted by Sarah Bethany on Sun, 02/05/2017 - 18:51

Last chapter about the break-up: I PROMISE! Happier things ahead. Thank you for sticking me with me. I'm just kind of flinging this one out, so that I can get back to the road trip storyline. I hope I haven't lost your interest with my melancholic musings, haha. .....Oh, and per the usual, with the romantic-related mature themes, for the older readers.

-----

My boyfriend turned into the bedroom without a word. In the middle of the room, I put my hand on his side, chaliced his ribs. "Are you going to drop?"

He said, "I'm beat," getting into bed.

The Lonely Road

Submitted by Arya Animarus on Sun, 02/05/2017 - 08:39

By a lonely road stands a lonely light,
‘Neath the clouded full moon above.
A dismal stretch of a country path,
Devoid of warmth and love.
A traveler stands on the lonely road,
Looking both to the left and the right,
And turns to walk down the lonely road,
Lit by the lonely light.
Houses full of Christmas cheer,
Windows glow warmly within,
But the shutter is closed, the curtains are drawn,
And no one invites him in.
As he reaches a fork in the lonely road,
A lantern’s light draws his eye.
