Forever with You

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Thu, 02/23/2017 - 18:33

Life’s journey is long and it’s winding,
Through vales, mountains and seas
Climbing o’er mountains, fording dark streams
‘Till heaven’s glories we’ll see.

E’en though this journey is darkened
Stained by the blight of men’s crime
God sends us His vessels of mercy
Beloved, you’re one of them—mine.

That’s why I praise Him I met you
I thank God our winding paths crossed
We met under bright Texas sunshine
In His timing we came to love.

A Song I Wrote When I Was 11...

Hey, AP! Guess what I found! A FLASH DRIVE! This ancient contraption served me well years ago, so when I found it and saw it still worked, I stuck it into the laptop and struck GOLD!
Honestly, all these old stories and poems are beautiful! I forgot all about them until now!
So this one, called 'Don't Say Goodbye', was stuck in my head for a couple years and inspired the poem that I've already shared with you called 'Give Me The Horizon'. This one is the very first. The SONG.

Don't Say Goodbye

A Glimpse Into Archaeoastronomy

Submitted by Hannah D. on Wed, 02/22/2017 - 22:11

Archaeoastronomy is a field that studies how the ancients saw the stars – and how they used their knowledge of them. Ancient people in Egypt, Ireland, Greece, and the Americas were capable of determining the times of astronomical events with great accuracy, and incorporated this into their architecture. The Greeks used advanced knowledge of geometry to study the heavens, but even the Mayans, who had no written language, were able to gain advanced knowledge about the heavens and studied the movement of Venus.

Jennifer sat down across from Teren.
“You sounded serious when you asked me to tea. Serious really isn’t your thing.”
Teren shook his head.
“Yeah, I know. I don’t like serious stuff, but this is kind of important.”
He cleared his throat.
“We both agree that we don’t feel romantically about each other, and don’t want to get married, right?”
“So far I’m with you, yes.”
“I think we should tell my father how we feel about it. And if he doesn’t know about Stuart and Jolie-”
“I’m not sure if Stuart and Jolie even know about Stuart and Jolie.”

~*~*~*~ I Shall Wear White Flannel Trousers, 10

As I stumbled back to the house, I thought about this:

A few years ago, a Russian woman read my palm.

She had caught me in the driveway while I was walking to my car. She was the grandmother of the little girl who lived next door to my apartment.

Yana kept her iron-gray hair cropped against her thick jowls. Her skirts were always bronze, and she habitually wore thinly-strapped camisoles.

Her upper arms were as big as salmon slabs, and the skin on them was hanging loose, like brown tissue paper.

Sweet Love

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Fri, 02/17/2017 - 18:08

Pink and burnt sienna roll across the sky
Blue comes along to kiss the moon goodbye
Sweet times! Sweet times! Birds titter and chime
This day is new-born, this is now the time
Let's gift love to the broken-hearted
Mingle our tears over one's who have parted
Purge away bitterness from many past years
Grant forgiveness to those we have greeted with sneers
Be Christ! Be Christ! Oh, give them your all
Be the gentle hand that lifts up from a fall
Show Christ! Show Christ! Don't judge without grace

Faith vs. Reason

Submitted by Hannah D. on Fri, 02/17/2017 - 16:07

What is the relationship between science and religion? While modern society may be prone to suggest that reason is better than faith, a quote from a famed scientist suggests a wiser approach.

“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.” – Albert Einstein
