The Nights

Sleepless nights are because of the rain
When I smile so much, I'm hiding my pain
Crying only heals the smallest of hurts
And I can't help but laugh
When there's nothing to gain

What's wrong with me?
A paradox twisted with agony
What's wrong with me?
I spread my wings
Even though I'm not free

Sleepless nights are because of the days.
We wish and we hope but nobody prays.
Running only hides the weakest of fears.
And I wish I could change
But my heart is a stone, solid, unfazed

Slowed by these weighty mental chains
I feel like I got hit by a train
Heaven forbid I display a weakness
And though I am breaking
I'm not allowed to complain

What's wrong with me?
A paradox twisted with agony
What's wrong with me?
I spread my wings
But will I ever be free?

Empty hearts are because of our fear
Of letting someone inside who won’t like what they hear
I look at myself and I can’t see what’s good
And all I do is run
Far away, so no one can come near

What's wrong with me?
A paradox twisted with agony
What's wrong with me?
I spread my wings
But I can never be free

Sleepless nights are because of the times
We stayed up talking, made the other cry
We hold each other to stave off the pain
And we promise forever
For though we are actors, this can't be feigned

Nothing's wrong with me
You've taken away my agony
Nothing's wrong with me
I'll spread my wings
Your love sets me free

This one was co-written by a close friend (he's not on AP, but his name is Ryan), and I couldn't post it without acknowledging how spectacular he is at writing. I only wish he would do it more.

This was my favorite bit. Spectacular.
"Slowed by these weighty mental chains" yesssssss. Perfect imagery of what it feels like. Bravo!

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

Love the imagery! Good writing forms a mental picture or feeling for the reader, and you definitely accomplished that here!

Beautiful meter and rhyme scheme! Yours and this Ryan's wording... I got chills! Tell Ryan to give AP a try, he's also a great poet! I have fallen in love with all of your poetry, Gina, it's just all gorgeous and thought-provoking.

I have been keeping Ryan updated on your comments as well, and he is currently woking on becoming a member, although he has been having difficulty with the site, but I trust James will be able to work it out, and hopefully you guys will be able to read his stuff firsthand.
