my beginning

Thick.  Dark.  The clouds hung heavily over the dry field.  The parched grass crunched softly beneath her feet as she stood.  Waiting.  She could feel it coming, the soft breeze that twisted around her bare ankles, sliding gently up her legs, enticing, pulling. Stronger, stronger the rustling grass whispered, dancing with the sky, held captive by the earth.

let me dance

I hear it.
Whispering through my window,
tapping at the pane,
Calling me out.
They're already dancing,
their grass skirts swaying in the wind
it tugs at my legs
at the hem of my dress
as I stand on the sidelines
wanting to join in,
waiting...waiting...
I sway with the rhythm
of the earth and the sky
Spinning above me,
Laughing.
I laugh too.
I throw my hands up
and run wild
run free
the howling wind at my ankles
as we fly across the fields,

i don't even know.

an hour break between classes...first day of the winter quarter....i walked to the student center with my friends and set my bag down on a table, reaching for my cellphone.  sudden panic flew across my face as i realized that it wasnt in my only pocket....so i began to dig through my bag.  Christa sat watching me with the "what are you doing this time?" look.

the art of flying with broken wings

~the art of flying with broken wings~

choices made and words unspoken
falling from a broken sky
i never dreamed you'd be the one
who in the end would kill a part of me
you who made me so alive.
with gentle hands you helped me to unfold my fragile wings
you promised we could touch the sky, soaring on our dreams
I looked into your eyes
and knew you spoke the truth.

I stood a princess on the rock
my kingdom field stretched out below
you laugh rang out, your voice clear

 Chapter the Second

Elvina was in her room, packing with an urgency like one who knows her home will be destroyed in less than an hour. She had a very large bundle-like bag she was overstuffing with traveling clothes; she had already raided the kitchens for all the long-lasting food she could find, and skin of water lay next to her cloak on her bed.

Someone knocked on her door. "Hello? Elvina? Are you there?"

Innocent

The first thing that struck him was her face. It looked a little tired, but the eyes brightened up when they had taken stock of him. They seemed a little appreciative of his presence, as if grateful for a pause in the flurry of activity inside the house. The mouth moved then, the corners pulling up in a welcoming smile. The lips opened. “Hello,” they said. “What can I do for you?"

Light Switch

Fingers fumble for that switch, the magical trigger that instantly plunges its operator into a familiar world, where everything is clear. If only he could find it. Inching like worms across the smooth wall, they pounce, latching on now with elated satisfaction. They feel cautiously, doubt and disappointment creeping in. No, this is not it. A frustrated grunt escapes into the gloom. The worms resume their search, now desperate to discover the target. Aha! The fingers move together in a clumsy but joint motion, up, down, up, there! Light floods the world, making everything clear.
