Left-Hander's Curse

"Keep up, Ceilí. We haven't much time." I pulled my sister's hand deeper into the forest. She whimpered quietly. I knew the running we'd done was too much on her, but I didn't have another choice. We had to keep going forward.

"Victeoiria..."

"No, Ceilí. We musn't stop. I see a field up ahead. We will rest there."  The sun was just going down beyond the hills of Álainn-Ionad, a tiny Gaelic city next to Ireland. It is not considered part of Ireland, but it is not a country of its own.

The Day Life Took On Meaning, section two

The next thing Kolbe knew there was loud alarm from the round silver clock that stood stoutly on the dark stained desk. Everyone rose quickly and began to stretch their limbs. At least he wasn’t the only one who had gotten stiff from sitting there that long. Jared yelled out who was in charge of which child and sent them all outside. He met Kolbe’s eyes.
“Just try to keep your eyes open for anyone who might need an extra hand. Margaret will help you.”

Elegant Shadow

Dance with me, elegant shadow!
take my warm fingers into your cool palm,
dance with me, dance with me, shadow!
across the moonlit lawn

Dance with me, bright-eyed shadow,
and spin me through the pale light
of the clock-face and star-falls
of the first autumn night

Dance with me, fleet-footed shadow!
Let the music be our guide,
let the notes of the bat-calls keep ringing
as they flit beneath the sky

Star-strewn, it glitters
blackened, and bright

The Homeschool Family

This evening, while reading an article about a particular museum, I noticed a sentence mentioning field trip packages available for different groups, among which it listed “homeschool families, and parents whose children are in public school”.

I was stunned.

While I have read similar references countless times, I had never caught the significance before.  Look at the wording:  “Homeschool families.”  Parents whose children are in public school.”

Robin Hood and John the Prince
Agreed to have a meeting
All seemed to be going well, since
They met with bowing greeting

"Rob," said John, "if we were wise,
Which is a small requirement,
We could pool each day to work
And help save the envirement.

"And if we were the wiser still,
We'd merge our two great forces.
I for rich, and you for poor,
And lawyers for the horses.

"You can steal, and I can tax,
And promise equal wealth,
And promises could flow like rain,
About a global health."

And There Were Three: Chapter Eighteen

"Settle down, Elinor.  My poor head can hardly think with all your gibbering."

Eltar and Elinor were spending a few quiet hours in their room, waiting for the pouring rain to cease; rather, Eltar was trying to do so, and Elinor was making it impossible.  Since Bettle had sent messengers to Emperor Armir of the Elves, her tongue would not stop clacking, chattering about what elves were like, and what they wear, and what their manners are, and what they eat.  A magpie would soon grow weary of her talk, to her brother's mind.
