Prologue

“The Fortuna is coming! Silera, the Fortuna is coming!” a man’s voice rang through the downstairs basement.
A young woman had been sitting in a rocking chair, delicately nursing a baby, who was gently wrapped in a pink fleece blanket, with a loving look in her eyes, but now the green eyes had turned to fear.

Prologue: Caecilia de Luchella

As day leapt from the east, Dawn stroked the horizon with her rosy fingers, tinting the sky with the vivid hues of daybreak. The golden sun illuminated the high-piled clouds tossed above the warm purple sea--- calm, shimmering in the sunlight and stretching to the sky’s very edge.

Twenty-three Minutes

A girl stands at the bottom of a hill, gazing up towards the summit. Her breath steams at regular intervals in the cold, early-morning air as she ponders her next move. indecision shows in her face which shows all her emotions in agonizing clarity. She glances around her; she is alone. This she is pleased with. She does not want anyone to see her if she fails. The distance is so long for her! She does not know if she can do it. She nods slowly to herself, response to an inner argument. Slowly her right hand comes up, she looks down at the object grasped firmly in it.

Chapter 27

Luella sat up with a start. It was nearly twelve o’clock. Slowly, she slid out of bed and looked about her bedroom. Nurse Biggs slumbered in a rocking chair, her tired wrinkled hands folded peacefully in her lap. Luella stopped and looked at her, her large eyes soft and affectionate in the pale moonlight. She touched the old woman’s hand softly with her own, then kissed the gaunt cheek.

I am planning to participate in NaNoWriMo[National Novel Writing Month], an attempt to write a 50,000 word story during November. But I can't decide which story to write. I'd appriciate any opinions or advice, especially since I should decide by November 1st, less than two weeks away.

My fingers hold the pick ever so soft,

I feel my pulse quicken as I strum down the guitar strings

          My fingers vibrate,

          My chest vibrates,

My soul is filled with the wonderful sound of music.

I change to the next fret,

         Fingers burning from playing,

         Mind toasted form concentrating,

         I pull through.

My guitar is my best friend,

It never turns it's back on me,
