An Essay for Ben the Editor Day

Around sixteen years ago, I wrote my first story, one which today I pray never ever gets into the hands of the free world.  Melodramatic, nonsensical, and - well, really just dumb, it was scribbled on two pieces of that old-fashioned printer paper and completed with my own illustrations.  That was the first of many stories that I would write over the next four or five years.  Most of the stories were based on my own adventures that I shared with Ezmerelda, my Yorkie Terrier, on my family's farm.

An Announcement

 Gather around you all

Hear, oh hear my call

Soon the day will arrive

When this place should be alive

Ben the Editor Day is July first!

Of his greatness we must converse

Come offer your epics, your stories, your songs

Forget not your essays; they too, belong

Remember what dear Ben has done

Without him would we all be stuck on mibba.com?

Yes, this poem was written with haste

But this reminder I wanted to grace

You'll Never Know

Fluttering beat, then the heart stands still.

Excessive warmth, but then a cool chill

It's you.

It's her.

And me.

Squeezing in where I do not belong

Like singing the words to someone else's song

I'm breaking

And stepping

Away.

But I'll only cry when no one can see

So they won't wonder what's happened to me

And you'll never know.

You'll just

Never know.

Love Wins

Trying to keep my heart at bay
Trying to keep feelings out of the way
Reason should rule, because it's reliable
Emotions, however, are far too liable
To sway back and forth, causing only distress
So I allow Reason to be the mistress
Of my mind's household; decisions are made
By her, and my heart must obey.

At least, that was the plan.
But the more I try
And the harder I fight
To let reason have command
The more I find
Myself responding
