The Forests of Evenlear, Part Four: A Havenwing Teacher

Submitted by Mary on Fri, 07/08/2011 - 23:20

I awoke an hour earlier than necessary the next morning, and my nerves prevented me going back to sleep even for a few minutes, so I rose and began getting myself ready. The wardrobe was my first order of business. I had thought out a dozen possible outfits while lying awake the night before, but still had not managed to decide on one that merited the occasion.

The Promise of a Dream

In the depths of sky-blue eyes,

I’m entranced, I’m mesmerized.

My heart was captured in a beat

And that alone is quite a feat.

Your smile was so soft, sincere,

It banished every single fear.

And as I held your gaze in mine,

It seemed that God had stopped all time.

I could not move, nor could I breathe.

How could I bring myself to leave?

Glorious are weekly writing contests... but only if you can keep up. I had to call a hiatus for one week, then the next week I couldn't keep up with my own contest. So, this week, my best friend's contest was a little more managable:

Condensing Thoughts

In 200 words or less, you must ...

~ explain the unique way a child was transported to another world (made up by you) to have an adventure;

~ explain a fictional idea of how a custom or phrase came about, such as a story behind the name of something we use now;

Mirror Mirror Part Three, Chapters Three and Four

Chapter Three
Snow White was only slightly awake. She wasn’t all the way asleep, but her mind was foggy and her eyes pleasantly refused to open. She was warm and safe in a cozy bed that was a little too short for her, but that was alright. She always slept a little curled up, like a caterpillar in a cocoon.
Then, she heard noises. Quiet, muffled noises. Footsteps. Whispers.
The servants are about, she thought drowsily. I wonder what Cook has made for breakfast.

Where The Light Touches The Earth

(This isn't really a poem, but I hope you will like it anyway)

I had imagined,

A starry night, an ethereal whisper whisper of wind and the deep, navy blue sea

Where tiny waves reflect the moon's rays

The scent of pine trees and salt engulfed me.

I had imagined,

My knitted, mauve top over my cold body,

My denim shorts leave my legs bare, absorbing the ivory moonlight

I'm running, leaping, spinning.

I had imagined,

The jade green and hibiscus purple burst out into the twinkling sky

Sought for but Unseen

Breathless, she collapsed. She beheld her hands before her on the pavement; they were blue, bruised and numb. Pattering, the rain struck her back, dripped down her hair and caused little ripples in the puddles that surrounded her. She was on her knees: torn by the rough pavement. Around her there was no one; not a living being passed by on the streets. Alone. Companion by companion had deserted her. Now upon her knees she sank; to her unfeeling hands she leaned.

Two Simple Words, Part 1

Autumn collapsed on her bed. “If that wasn’t tiring, then I don’t know what is!” she said between gasps as she tried to catch her breath.

Jared and Stacey Harrison smiled at their only child as they sank into the depths of the oversized loveseat near the door of Autumn’s bedroom.

“Well, you wanted to vacation in the mountains so that you could hike, sweetie,” her father said, laughing. “And we all liked this retreat when we looked it up because it had good hiking trails.”
