Friendship Article

Submitted by Madeline on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 17:19

Hello! :) I wrote the below article for our local magazine. This is the second article I've written for them. Hopefully I can become a seasonal writer--right now it's just on a feature basis. Oh, well. The articles are from a "teen's" perspective on different topics. This time it was friendship. Enjoy!

Dr. Seuss once said, “Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

Cup of Tea (One of Two, Short Story)

Submitted by Madeline on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 00:00

Greta liked tea.

She had since she was a little girl, when stealing sips of her mother's own fragrant drink. The best time to commit this crime was when Miss Holly came over, which was often. Miss Holly was the most ancient woman Greta had ever met and she was sure the awe would never wear off. Her crinkly, paper-sack skin mesmerized the girl of five, as did the thin, wispy white briads and puckered lips. Like a lemon drop.

"Can I watch you make tea?" Greta would ask her mother innocently.

Tumultuous Heart

Submitted by Tamerah on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 00:55

At once careful and careless,
in love but yet heartless,
you pick at bones like
a carrion crow and make
war with the desert sands,
saying that if you could you
would make it snow forever,
if only to taunt me,
for you know how I love the sun.

Meanwhile as you waged war
I made peace with the overcast,
both within and without,
and begged be taken up in buoyant arms
and tossed like flotsam into the sea.
I advised you then to rest
your tumultuous heart

Anthrozil, prologue and Chpt. 1

This is a take off of Bryan Davis's books from the series' Dragons in our Midst and Oracles of Fire. Hope you enjoy!

Prologue.

Acacia pedaled her bike up the driveway of her house and walked it into the garage.  She hiked her backpack up on her back and walked through the door into the kitchen.

"Mom! I'm home from Sally's place!" she called out. She grabbed a notebook off the counter and looked around.

"Mom? I'm home!"

She thought she heard a noise from the living room.

Panes of Sunlight

Submitted by Heather on Tue, 09/13/2011 - 00:17

Outside crisp fall blows

The trees are cold and bare

The orange leaves dance on the ground

But the golden sunshine sprawls

Through my windows to my bed

It brightens the green and white check

The brown and white stripes of my comforter

Cat-like, I curl up

Barefooted, toenails painted flashy amber

In the ultimate comfort of jeans and a t-shirt

With an open book

Spreading worlds before me

I cry and laugh, smile and cheer

As the panes of sunshine warm me

I won't say it...

This is a little awkward.
Unusual, at least, for me.
I almost think, maybe I…
No, that just can’t be.

But now, sometimes, I cry
Without meaning to
I sometimes smile at nothing
And it’s ‘cause I thought of you.

My mind won’t focus at all
Not compared to before
I’m acting out of character
I daydream a lot more.

If you ask me, I’ll deny it
This feeling’s just too weird.
I need to push you away a bit
No, it’s not from fear.

Past, Present, and Future

 Past, Present, and Future

Eager eyes

That hide in the past,

The perfect size

For memories that last.

Listening ears

That hear a parent’s wisdom,

The perfect age

To wonder what it meant.

Childish mouth

That speaks of the future,

The perfect sound,

Turning their thoughts to her future.

Their eyes watch the child

As she watches the present and the past,

Their ears hear her feet

As she waltzes, held fast.

The Prince Who Went Searching for True Love- Chapters 3 & 4

 Chapter Three

Encountering The BIG Bull

He was riding his horse down the road when an old man came bursting out of a gate, rushing up to him. He had a sword in one hand and a bull whip in the other, and he was riding a big bull. He shook his weapons at him and yelled,

"Thief! Thief! You get off my horse you horrible man!"

The prince looked at him aghast.

"You dare speak to the prince like he was a common criminal? If you want your miserable horse just say so!"

The Legend of Time

The Legend of Time

Arvindian Version

In my world, much as on earth, there are certain myths that are common to all the countries, though with noticeable variations. On earth, we have creation and flood 'myths', all stemming of course from the great Truth of the Creation and Flood. We also have 'tales' such as Cinderella, which can be found in many different variations in almost every culture of the world. In just the same way, the legend of Time is found in all the southwestern part of the world dimension of Heszeret, and possibly elsewhere.
