"The Only Living Thing" and "Victory, at Such a Cost"

Submitted by Arthur on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 00:31

I have been extremely busy lately so that even though I had written these in October, and ment to post them then, I have been kept from doing so. I also would like to sorry for taking so long to read through things and publish them lately. It was for the same reason that kept me from posting. Anyways, I have caught up now.

These two stories I wrote for a writting assignment. The first is a rewritten story, and the second is totally original(well, I guess not since it uses the same world as the first) I hope that you enjoy, and any corrections are welcomed with open arms!

Dragons are Evil

September 5, In the Year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Twelve

The unanimous Declaration of the Free Peoples of Arda, Eraioch, and Drahawn,

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for certain peoples to dissolve any peaceful bands which have connected them with another people, and to assume a posture of war to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God demand of them, a decent respect to the opinions of all moral creatures requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to this state of war.

Hurricane

Submitted by Lucy Anne on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 18:35

Hello all! As some of you might have noticed, I have been absent from AP and all of the internet for awhile now. My family are out of power from Hurricane Sandy (today marks a week) that swept through our place. We have no heat, no stoves, no lights, etc. So my sisters and I are staying at our grandparents' place right now since it is sooo cold at our house. This is what I wrote while watching Hurricane Sandy rage outside the window last Monday. I just want to thank you! If it weren't for all of you AP-ers, I would have never wrote this poem or any at all! Tell me what you think.

The Truth About Mormonism (Part 3): The Internal Test

Submitted by Benjamin on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 00:02

In the last part of this essay, we analyzed the accuracy of The Book of Mormon using the external test. In this next part, we will move on to examine the Mormon scriptures through the second test: the internal test. We will use this test to determine whether or not the Mormon scriptures* agree with each other. After all, if they contradict each other, at least one, and possibly all, of them lose much of their credibility.

A Letter Home

Submitted by Keri on Sun, 11/04/2012 - 08:15

 Dear Mother,

Today I caught a falling star. I was going to send it to you, but it asked so politely for me to release it, that I chose to do so. Therefore, I am instead enclosing a piece of fairy joy that was given to me by a friend.  It is guaranteed to keep your radishes perky and your tomatoes from drooping. Just sprinkle it into your soup to have the best tasting cooking around.

Hidden Behind the Veil of Remembrance

Submitted by Mairead on Sun, 11/04/2012 - 01:56

Maeve shivered as she entered the overly air-conditioned party center through two very large heavy front doors. The heat of the day had been pressing on her bare shoulders ever since the morning sun had risen high into sky, and thus had succeeded in making her feel burdened and uncomfortable. The air inside the hall that was escaping through a large vent in the wall evaporated the moisture from her body as she passed, drying her sticky skin and making the hair in her arm stand on edge. A sigh escaped her throat, partly out of relief and partly out of anxiety.

Three Poems That Have A Tendency To Be About Love

Submitted by Madeline on Sat, 11/03/2012 - 23:37

Almost

My lips were but a breath from yours Close enough to touch But to close the tranquil distance I was not brave enough

And it left me feeling worried Think perhaps it was a mistake An unconscious slipping of my mind That toyed with both our fates

Because now I stand before him Worried, scared, confused And it is your thundering silence that Propels me to say I Do

that i love you

Would I?

Submitted by Emilee on Sat, 11/03/2012 - 18:10

I would love a comment :)
--------------------------------------------
Would I?

Would it be clear-
If I stood in a place where He stood?
Would I actually know?
Would His presence be understood?

If I found the hill-
The place where His blood dripped-
Could I feel him?
Would I see His body stripped?

Would I know it-
If I sat where the vinegar spilt?
Would I taste it-
The pain and agony with my guilt?

Wanderlust

This isn't one of my favorites, but I was told its been waiting longer so it deserved to be put up before some of my others! So, don't expect anything great but I hope you enjoy it! I would love a comment :)!

Wanderlust

Towering buildings
Entice
Bustling avenues
Draw

Everything just out of reach
One more mile
Everything just out of sight
One more hill

Animated forests
Entrance
Strange animals
Awake

This is the beginning of a story that has been churning in my mind for quite awhile. The title is temporary, since I haven't really gotten any burst of inspiration for a title as of yet! Tell me what you think of it, and please don't hesitate to give me any suggestions and/or corrections! Thanks! :)
