Dear Mother,
Today I caught a falling star. I was going to send it to you, but it asked so politely for me to release it, that I chose to do so. Therefore, I am instead enclosing a piece of fairy joy that was given to me by a friend. It is guaranteed to keep your radishes perky and your tomatoes from drooping. Just sprinkle it into your soup to have the best tasting cooking around.
I’ve almost found the key I was looking for. The hummingbird that lives in my tree has been insisting that she will give it to me very soon. I think she’s trustworthy, even if she still hasn’t brushed her teeth in the entire time she’s lived in the neighborhood. I think perhaps she may be a trifle shy about it, so I have stopped asking. It is; after all, better to be kind about such things.
It should interest you to know that fall will be staying late this year. He apparently has some extra business to attend to in the area. I believe that he simply has wish to take a rest. I do not mind too much; although, I hope he doesn’t eat too much of my stored food while he’s here. Winter always has such a voracious appetite, and I won’t be able to make a trip to the elves for restocking as I must see to the matter of a lost wind who needs to be watched at all times until its parents have come.
The advice you gave me for my rash worked wonderfully. You have always been fantastic about such things, and I’ll remember in the future not to let a wood nymph handle my soaps. I have been most adamantly assured that it was all an accident, and I am inclined to believe it. However, it is rude to ask about the contents of a nymph, and I won’t usually be able to know if there is poison oak present without asking.
I must go now. Father Time needs to be roused or he’ll miss his entire schedule again, and that will be a mess. I must remember to get him a reliable watch for his birthday. Give my love to Mary and all the brothers for me. I have the greatest assurance that they can pass their exams with good study and firm hearts. I greatly enjoyed the pie you sent with your last letter and confess that I kept it hidden in my invisible cupboard and ate half of it all alone! The rest I did share, of course. Write again soon!
With truest love,
Meredith
