Musings on a Stormy August Morning

Submitted by E on Thu, 08/15/2013 - 14:25

1. Those Three Words
I love you
More than all the stars combined
Those three words don’t always carry much weight
But I can tell you with solidarity
That I mean them more than you will ever know

2. Lovely Lazy Day
Am I wasting my time?
Probably
But for once I don’t mind
Because time wasted with you
Isn’t really wasted at all

3. camping
i long for the gentle hum
of all the insects singing in the trees
sleeping out in the grass, the sun in my eyes
fingers intertwined with my freckle-faced boy
take me back to that place
my sweet paradise
where we could be still in the pale light of morning
and at night we could truly count the stars

4. A Stormy August Morning
My solace comes when the rain tumbles down
Quiet house, the sweet smell of coffee brewing
Dark rooms hold delicious secrets when there’s nobody home
I have no need for words, only the gentle thunder
Here, I find my inspiration and my reflection

5. I Won’t Let Them
You can still be everything
Don’t give up this fight yet
Your dreams are alive
I won’t let them tear you down

6. Sacrifice
Before you leave
I have to tell you one last thing
It’s never too late to come back home
Sometimes, at least
Don’t forget me, I think I still need you
But I know that your dreams are beckoning
I want everything for you
Be happy, for me

7. Tricks
i feel
so
very
small
when you
look
my
way
could this
be
real
love
or my
deceptive
mind
again

IT'S RAINING!!!! That means that it has officially cooled down from 104 degrees to about 80. It's almost jacket weather ;-D. On another note, a couple of these are inspired by this lovely song that I heard on So You Think You Can Dance the other night. It's called Medicine by Daughter. It's absolutely stunning. Everybody should also watch the dance (it's by Tucker and Robert, choreographed by Travis Wall). It brought tears to my eyes, especially if you know their stories. Anyway, my rant is over. Thoughts???

Ohmigosh you watch So You Think You Can Dance. We need to be friends. Hahaha! (as if we're NOT, right? We're writing buddies! Haha!) ;) Hopefully I didn't just freak you out. I solemnly swear I'm not a 39 year old (wo)man masquerading as a homeschooled writer. Because if I were, I would soooooo pick a better disguise, I swear.

Anyway. *clears throat* I really loved that dance! My mom and I watched it twice. And the song--I love, love, love songs like that (soft, meandering--it really reminds me of A Fine Frenzy/The Icarus Account (which I only know, like, two songs of...but anyway)

As for the poetry, I was really glad to see you had posted. My favorite...

I really liked camping, but I felt really connected to A Stormy August Morning. Everything in that is so, so vivid.

I really liked the first, too. Honestly, scrolling over...I just really liked everything. This was a great bunch of poems. Please keep them coming, Erin! Thanks!

I re-watched it like three times and it brought the same emotion every single time! I listened to the song first thing this morning, too. Plus I'm literally in love with Travis Wall. His choreography and general awesomeness gets me every single time.
I'm pretty sure that if we knew each other in real life we would be best friends. It's a shame that you obviously don't live in the same state since you can wear a sweater in July. LOL.
Anyway, thank you so much!

These all fit together so beautifully! I'm always particularly in awe of that almost visible bond, probably because most of my poems are just shoved in a post together and made to like it. :) I listened to the song, and really the whole EP (ain't Spotify grand?) and I feel like it complements these poems incredibly. So, to anyone reading this, go listen to the song and re-read the poems. You're welcome.

My favorite was I Won't Let Them. I really liked it, especially how it seemed to say that you don't just own dreams, but they own you to a certain extent; you can't always leave them behind.

I also really liked the ending of Sacrifice:

I want everything for you
Be happy, for me

*chills*

Anyway, these were all quite lovely, and seemed to have an almost foggy quality. Foggy isn't quite the right word, but neither is dream-like, and I can't think of a better one right now, so I'll stick with foggy. Very real up close, but hazy in the distance, sort of introverted, maybe?

I'll quit thinking out loud now... :P Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much!!! I appreciate you taking the time to pick them apart, too, it really helps me out. I'm glad that you liked the song! You should also watch the dance, because it is absolutely beautiful.

I really like Sacrifice. There's not many words, but they hold a kind of bittersweet, longing, but submissive tone to it. I think it could turn into a good story.

And A Stormy August Morning paints a beautiful picture of an vacant, but still inspiring home.

Ha, sorry to have started a comment off with "lol" but it's winter here....and it is really weird because it's such a BEATIFUL day today, I feel really out of place.

Ahem. Excuse me my strange ramblings, will you?
Ah, yes the poems. Right, well:
Lovely Lazy Day: Mmm. Love these days. Especially if you've spent them with your bff/boyfriend/whoever.
A Stormy August Morning: I want to boil the jug now. A tea would be wonderful. Very nice imagery you painted.
I Won't Let Them and Sacrifice were good.
Tricks: Oh yes. My mind is so deceptive...especially at night. Arhh!

Yes well, thanks for reading to the end of my random comment. ;D

Thank you for commenting! Lol, wanna trade? I would kill for it to be winter right now. Actually, it's really nice today. It was 69 this morning, which is unheard of in August!!!!
