Lady of the Night

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Thu, 05/16/2019 - 04:18

Serenity sets the mood
A misty and quiet groove
Fireflies light the darkened path
And crickets chirp their tunes
The moon has given its white-washed bath
Of perfect silver lunar charm
And stars wink down on forrest line
Leaving no room for pitch alarm
Darkness is friendly
When accompanied by light
And shielded by hooded figure fair
For she walks only when the sun is gone
Exuding depth, the shallows beware
She glides along the shadowed path
And lingers at the foothill, long

Luminescence

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Wed, 03/27/2019 - 13:55

Oft there come these pitch black nights
Untouched by heaven’s perfect lights
And in those nights we fail to see
Lost in darkness, but alone by no means

For lights soon prick the canvas, black
And with their beams loneliness lack
But carry with them friends, or love
They come with Truth the dark to prove

So lose not hope in blackest dark night
But pray until you see the light
For clarity accompanies luminescence
And faith shines forth in clarity’s presence

Whispers in the Wind

It eerily whispers in the wind
Moaning quietly to my soul
Telling tales of darkest sin
Spearing me with its barren bones

Deathly pale it’s aura glows
And scatters far its murd’rous wails
With chilling glimpse of fateful woes
Upon my shoulders it details

It cried out as if torn by fright
And I responded with lustrous light
While reaching forth into the night
I calmed it to unending quiet

Hope Revived

His thoughts were racing; reliving every single second, overthinking every spoken word. The fire grew bigger, and the screams intensified. He ran to the window, shattering the glass with the butt of his gun. Sparks were flying, and bits of the roof were already falling down. He was just about to dive through the flaming window when he felt arms around his shoulders, and he was being pulled back to safety.

Soldier of God

Captain Aurelius Cassian held his breath. He prayed to Juno for a son for months after he was told of the pregnancy, and he sent incense to Jupiter for a princely fellow, Venus and Cupid for a boy of comely appearance, and Mars for a suitable warrior of Rome. He begged the gods for an heir.
Now, he waited for the result of his prayers.

Immortal

When I look at the sky, and see ten thousand stars
Cradled in Your loving hand,
I take a moment and ponder on the wonders
And the vastness of Your Land.
Your majesty and Your infinite Being
Of holiness and glory;
Your gentle eyes on me that are always seeing
My poor and finite story.
Poor and finite no more: for You have done a work;
You have made me immortal;
As Holy King You lift me gently when I shirk,
You've opened Heaven's portal.

Insomnia (a song without a tune)

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Mon, 10/31/2016 - 15:46

Crickets and fans sound in my ear
I wait for dawn's rays to appear
But pain cannot be kept at bay
I try to push the fog away
And onwards through the haze I see
That sleep may make its way to me

Don't leave me, no
Don't let me be
You cannot judge
What you can't see

And then the beast draws near again
Insomnia is labeled "sin"
It's dreaded force to me denies
Blessed sleep and still it decries
That I must be awake at night
While rest is scared away by sight

Never Alone

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 07/31/2016 - 04:17

Now I ponder and wonder why
A man thinks best to take his life
Thinks to end his conscience' strife
His hopeless fingers grip the knife

There is no love to make him thrive
It hurts to breath; to be alive
He's lost his faith, he's lost his drive
It is not worth the pain to strive

It's become a matter of time
Because of this he starts the climb
From conscience to justify crime
But then he hears a quiet rhyme
