Beginning With Coffee and Cars

He loved coffee.

She loved coffee.

He saw her every day.

He was the highlight of her day.

Aleydis watched the handsome See What I Bean’s employee create the shocking wonder of the double caramel frappuccino with a dexterity that only comes with being a high school student with a long-standing need for caffeine. It was very impressive, really. At the same time, it was maybe a little strange how one’s passion turned to coffee.

He turned to face her, adding a fancy flourish to the whipped cream. “More? Less?”

“Nope, perfect.”

Javi's Cafe, 24.

“It’s today!” Ema cried when I stepped into the café.
“But you’re not excited or anything,” I said.
She giggled.
“Are you nervous?”
Ema shook her head. “Not yet. And mama says if I get nervous, to pretend it’s only you, her, and Clara in the café.”
“That’s good advice.”
She leaned over and whispered in my ear. “And mama’s going to get flowers for Clara for afterwards.” She stopped whispering. “Are you going to?”
“Not right now,” I said. “But someday, maybe.”
“And did you know I get to stay up as late as I want tonight?”

King I, II

King - I You with your dizzying lackadaisical demeanor and the way you spread your hands when you speak Motioning conducting every measured quick-witted remark that spins from your teeth purposefully and I can hear your voice and know the way your face and lips will curve on certain words even the ones I make up that have never been released Is this Sickness or infatuation or Neither, I suppose Since I've settled into this unsettled Indifferent in-between A back-and-forth bickering Internally Where it could go either way Depending on the day For me to wish you to be

Whom He Loves, He Chastens (Rejoice!)

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sat, 11/28/2015 - 19:49

We should never complain to God about the hard times we are experiencing but instead we should turn it into an opportunity to praise Him and thank Him.
Whom He loves He chastens. It's a refining fire. The dross is consumed and we are cleansed. So thank God for the fires and trials that He puts you through.
Do not attempt to quench the spirit.
2 Thessalonians 5:19 "Quench not the Spirit."
Indulging in the lust of the flesh and the lust of this world is a way to quench the spirit.

God's Handiwork in the Insect World

Penny Gullan and Peter Cranston, both professors of evolution, ecology, and genetics, are the authors of the latest edition of a widely-used college entomology textbook entitled, "The Insects: An Outline of Entomology". These two evolutionists begin the third chapter with this statement: "The dissected open body of an insect is a complex and compact masterpiece of functional design."

You’re Not At All What I Expected

Submitted by Wings of Eternity on Fri, 11/27/2015 - 19:33

You’re not at all what I expected,
You’re a mystery to me,
A present wrapped undetected,
not placed beneath the tree.

We didn’t meet the way I planned,
all sparkle and romance.
We didn’t meet on moonlit sand
or even at a dance.

I waited for you to notice me,
all dressed up in blue.
But you were too busy to stop and see
the effort I made for you.

Later we met, all tousled and worn
with hair completely a mess,
in old t-shirts and jeans torn,
but the meeting itself: priceless.

Rut

the sky is bending,
warping, because
you left
and something in that
is wrong.

Pollution is tinting
the tops of houses
and bottoms of clouds
olive green and
starburst pink.

I think maybe
there is beauty
in the destruction,
like the rut
your tire dug
in the grass
of my front lawn.

sometimes I glance
out the window
and think of fixing it,
the damage.

But I don’t,
because that would erase
the last part of you
I can see.

Joy

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Mon, 11/23/2015 - 17:31

We take happiness for granted. It's like we think we deserve it. But we don't. Ultimately we deserve hell. Christ changed that by suffering the wrath of God in our place so that we can experience the joy of eternal life.
Happiness is temporal but joy is found in the eternal.
So we should be joyful...when? Only when we remember what lies ahead (in heaven)? Or how about when things are going our way? Rejoice in the Lord every-once-in-a-while? No. "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice." (Phil. 4:4)

Why Christians Care So Much About Defending Traditional Marriage

Modern America is all about love. That love expresses itself in many different ways, but on a societal level it is all about embracing who you are, loving yourself so that you can better love others, and loving others by showing them tolerance, no matter what their beliefs or lifestyle may be.

Tolerance. Since when did that become such a positive word?

"Hey, we're all going to hang out at my place after school. Wanna join us?"

"Sure, I think I could tolerate being with you guys for a few extra hours."
