My sister and I

Submitted by Hailey Hallow on Wed, 11/12/2008 - 22:20

My sister and I play tennis,
But that does not make us the fittest.
Sometimes we argue and fuss but
Our love remains like the unbreakable Earth's
Crust.

My sister and I run long,
And carry on,
Untill the end of dawn.

Morning awakes like a flower beaming out into
The glistening sun. My sister and I run
Until the day gone.

Another day passes, but one will soon start
My sister and I will be ready with open minds
And loving hearts.

My Mother

I wrote this when I was around 5-9 years old. :)

You tuck me in at night, I hear your voice with delight. But the love you give is so precious to me and nothing is better than that.

Night Under the Star Filled Sky

Submitted by E on Tue, 11/11/2008 - 20:02

*Author's Note* Yay!! Finally, a good poem written by me! I love poetry but I have a lot of trouble writing it. I'm VERY happy with this though, and I hope y'all like it! P.S. Sorry it's so short!

Her eyes reflecting stars,
She looked
To the night sky
That t’was filled with
Bright Lights.
The moon shown
On her face,
Coloring her white,
On that night
Under the
Star filled sky

Bird's Song

Submitted by Elizabeth on Tue, 11/11/2008 - 03:56

This afternoon I was raking leaves. It was cold. The sky was an impenetrable grey and looked like nothing could ever break it. The trees were mostly bare, brown, and leafless, though some still held onto their burst of fall color. As I raked, the noise of the leaf blower filled my ears, but I still was able to hear one lonely bird sing. It seemed like a burst of spring right into the cold grayness of the day. I looked up, trying to find out where the song was coming from. I first looked to one tree, then to another, and yet another.

Dream-Weaver

The spider, her small form above
the bed where I lay to sleep
Her thin legs carry her
in circles, in zigzags
with fine silk behind her
She weaves and she moves
silent, intently
she spins and she weaves
she spins and she weaves
the stuff of my dreams

First Snow

Submitted by Anna on Mon, 11/10/2008 - 21:07

Fragile fairy structures
Climbing up your window
Tell you what has come,
What is to be
Again.
It makes you
Smile.
Run outside
Spread your arms
To the falling snow
It urges you
To let go
And smile.
Snowflakes
Caught in your hair
And on your lashes
Sparkle and shimmer
Like a million jewels-
Like the stars above,
They wink, they twinkle
They set off
Your smile.
Great black trees
Tower against the sky,
Against the purple twilight,

The Stalloin's Breath

Submitted by Bernadette on Mon, 11/10/2008 - 19:22

From the high peak he comes
Like a shadow in the night
Taking the stars his coat does shine
Revealing the moon in his eye
From that eye is a fire
Of dancing beauty, of dancing sea

His nostrils are wide as they flare
Coming forth a breath of might
From his chest comes his neigh
Frightening as thunder,
Piercing the wind

His hooves are that of iron
With thundering swift pace
Muscles of steel deeply carved
Exults their strength rolling stride

How Nature Represents God

Submitted by Keri on Sat, 11/08/2008 - 21:57

Everywhere a person goes, he sees some form of creation such as other people, the wondrous sky, the flying birds, the tall and majestic trees, and many unique animals . No matter where one looks, one witnesses nature testifying that it was created. In its own complexity, the natural world practically shouts it out; plant life, animal instincts, and yes, even the very earth itself proves that there is a highly intelligent creator, God, behind the existence of everything.

Wonder

Submitted by Bernadette on Sat, 11/08/2008 - 17:19

Wonder of the glowing sunrise
With its golden day breaking horizons

Wonder of the laden dew
With tall green grass and sparkling leaves

Wonder of the sun’s bright light
With rays of gold stream down

Wonder of soft cloudy dawns
With cool wind wisps by

Wonder of the glistening lapping waves
With mermaids swimming tails glittering in sun

Wonder of the wavering sea
With blue depths, the sun rays gleaming through

Wonder of the rising whale
With water he leaps, as he comes from the sea
