Once Upon a Time, In a Faraway Land, there lived a king and queen and their daughter, Princess Isabella. The King and Queen tried their best to teach Isabella Christian values. They helped the poor and prayed often. Before every meal, they would say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, come and be our guest at this time.” Since the family said that prayer ever night, Isabella couldn’t understand why Jesus would never come. So, one day, she confronted her mother about her thoughts.

Once Upon A Time, a monkey named Deedee owned a beautiful island. It was only Deedee and her bananas that lived there, so she called the island “Deedee’s Banana Cabana Heaven”. Then, one day, humans came onto the island. They built a town and took most of Deedee’s bananas. “Those pesky humans!” Deedee thought angrily. Deedee climbed one of the trees on the island and said, “Well as long as they leave me alone, I’ll leave them alone.”

Lilies of the Field Compare & Contrast

In the novel The Lilies of the Field, by William E. Barrett, the two main characters, Mother Maria Marthe and Homer Smith, were similar in many ways, yet different too. One of the similarities they shared was that both Mother Maria and Homer wanted to be in charge. While Homer was constructing the chapel, Mother Maria and he kept getting into arguments about if whether Homer was doing it right or not. Homer and Mother were both very adamant about what they wanted and did give in easily. When Homer was trying to get permission to buy the nuns food, Mother kept saying no.

On a Silent Night

The silent, still darkness
Tick, tick, tick
of the kitchen clock
Shadows and quiet
Moonbeams through the window
drenching the smooth floor
in silver

Soft carpet,
hushed wind,
dark room
illuminated by colored lights
yellow and blue and red and green
strung around, weaving along the branches
of a tall evergreen
Twinkling silver and gold
hung on every bough
Glowing, magical
Soundless, beautiful
mysterious, wonder

and so he came and stole my breath away,
the frosted winter wrapped in ice,
hypnotized and put away last summer on the closet shelf
shut the seasons door and
slid the key under the mattress
of my bed.
i hid behind the corner wall as he crept in
sliding his body beneath my closed door,
spreading himself thin across the floor
i slid under the sheets shivering
as he curled around my feet
and slept.
i awoke in his embrace, wrapped around my bare shoulders

Sixth Grade

Fear.
Then confusion.
Next pride.
There was a
Whirlwind of emotions
Rushing through my head
And leaving it
Barren.
All because of sixth grade.
I realized that entering
Sixth grade would be like
Walking down an endless
Street in the dark.
You don't know what's
Approaching,
But you've come too far to
Turn back.
I wasn't sure if I was ready
To continue my walk down that street.
