Nadezda woke up early to try to solve the riddle. Valora and Farren followed her downstairs, into the kitchen.

Norla was up and about. Bacon was frying, and a fresh baking of biscuits was cooling on the counter. She was, at the moment, making lots of scrambled eggs.

   "Hi, Mom," Nadezda said.

   "Good morning," Norla answered.

Nadezda plunked onto a chair. Farren and Valora sat across from her.

"Mom, could you pass me a pad, please?" Nadezda asked.

When she had a pad, she took the pen offered to her by Valora and read the riddle:

Tea-Strings

tea-strings all tied up
on my fingertips, leading somewhere
airplanes all high up
above the runway strips, heading somewhere
I told you it doesn't have to be this way
it was just a feeling

tea-string all tied up
I can't remember
what to remember

airplanes all high up
against the palm backdrop;
should I remember?

tea-strings now tether us
by our fingertips, knit us together
airplanes won't take us
we're stuck on runway strips, knit tight together

Cain’s Wife: A Touchy Subject

Submitted by James on Sun, 05/23/2010 - 05:05

One of the most frequently raised challenges to the feasibility of biblical history is the question, “Where did Cain get his wife?”  In other words, how could all humans come from an original mother and father, when this would obviously involve the incest of their children?  Somewhere, a man would have to marry his sister – and that’s immoral!  (Right?)  Isn’t that a huge blunder for a moral creator God to set up the human race so that fulfillment of his command, “be fruitful and multiply” would require an immoral act?
