The Untold Tale~Part 1

Submitted by AmandaMR on Thu, 07/12/2018 - 03:59

It is a sad truth that in most fairy tales, there is a story left untold. The moment a fair princess, handsome prince, or hard-working peasant is introduced, the reader becomes invested in their tale instead. Too often the 'side' characters who aid them are left by the wayside, no longer interesting once their part in the protagonist's story has been told. Indeed, at times they are positively robbed of their rightful place in it. This story attempts to bring some attention to one such who is unjustly overlooked. This is the tale of the seventh dwarf.

Metamorphosis

I

I tried to express myself through scratches and
Scars
Bumps and bruises
A tangle of faded t shirts and
Ripped denim skirts
Proclaiming to the world
That I
Was tough
Hair in a ponytail I raced up the hill
Climbed the tree and
Fell down
Mud
On my
Face
I grit my teeth
Blood
On my skin
Proving to my friends that I
Could be
Tough

Rick the Accountant

Maybe he had been little hasty in launching his investigation. As he stared at the gun pointed at him, he began to seriously regret every decision he had ever made that led him down this path. Including, but not limited to: going to college, answering the phone last Tuesday, and proposing to Adelaide.
Critical thinking had got him into this mess, but would it get him out? It was the only thing he knew how to do, so he supposed that it was his only option.

Darkness, You Despair

He thought it was the right answer
And so took his own life
His arm breathed an apology
For being dead inside

His friends take time to mourn for him
His family weeps with pain
Yet Alex our own broken loss
Should not have been your gain

The dominoes come crashing down
As air is filled with threats
Kids unstable, and razors sharp
Affect forgets regret

One death first, and then another
Your self inflicted loss
You curse your friend and your mother
Refuse to share your cross

Blackberries IV

“Emily, if you don’t object, Father and I want to adopt you.”

I gasped. It was as if cold water had been bucketed over the top of me—the shock hit me in full, and I could not breathe or feel. Every little voice inside my head screamed in alarm and disbelief. Adopt me? No one had ever wanted me. Yet here was a chance of freedom! A chance of living!

A chance to be loved?

Ambience

Ambience and lights that flicker
Offer a glance to a world much dimmer
A world though lightless still shines on
A lightless hope for the hopeless one
Find solace in the multitude
And friendship in the void
Silence in an outcry
Clamor in the abyss
Loss where there is plenty
Gain where there is none
A paradox in that it's not
Making sense where nothing should
And visions of a future past
Show insights of pasts yet to come

Where the Water Meets the Sky

Submitted by Libby on Thu, 06/07/2018 - 06:45

Where the water meets the sky
Blurring the horizon
Ships are sailing on the clouds
To the world above.
Waves are standing still,
Waiting until
It fades away;
Music from the ocean’s shore
Calls me now to stay.

Sailboats sway in a waltz with the sea
Seagulls laugh as they call out to me
In the sky, so beautifully free.
Silently, I watch them fly away.

Dreamless Sleep

Prologue
Regina sat on the couch as she watched her young daughter play dolls on the floor. As she watched, she drifted off into a dream. Oh it was a wonderful dream indeed. It was all she could have wished for in that moment: Killian was by her side and Christy was on her lap. Regina turned her head and stared at Killian just as he was staring at her. He took her hand into his and lead forward to kiss her on her cheek. She closed her eyes as she embraced this truly wonderful moment. Regina was snapped back into reality when Christy called her name. “Mommy?”
