I Don't Want to be a Princess

Submitted by E on Fri, 01/02/2015 - 04:10

I am not a princess
I have no desire to be
I do not need a man to save me
I am capable of so much more
Than floundering and wishing
For someone to love me
I am intelligent, not just beautiful
I don't need validation of that
It breaks my heart when girls
Wish that they were Cinderella
Waiting humbly until she was
Beautiful enough to be noticed by a prince
Or Ariel, who gave up her VOICE,
Her tail, her entire self
To be with a man she barely knew
Or Sleeping Beauty, who was awoken

Time Forgets

Our salvation is free: not cheep;
The blood and the water run deep.
Why do I hang my head and cry?
Because for sin did Jesus die.
In Christ we are a sacrifice;
It is His blood that sanctifies.
He has purged away our sin;
In our hearts He entered in.
It was not me that was smote,
Time forgets; please God I won't.

He Knows My Name

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 12/28/2014 - 15:54

Father Son and Spirit three but the same;
Christ is my God: He knows my name.
He knows my name and He gave it to me,
Before He made the skies, the earth and seas.
His name is love, forgiveness, and grace;
He knows my name, It's stamped on my face.
The name of Christ is written on me;
Signed with blood when He died on the tree.
Joy, oh joy, in heaven I have a place!
I know that someday I will see His face.

Around the World~The Meaning of Happiness (42)

Submitted by Kassady on Sun, 12/28/2014 - 15:53

Around The World
Funny to think,
I was wrapped around you,
Without a second thought of modesty,
So comfortable,
Because I knew it meant nothing.
Your smile was infectious,
As sweat dripped down your face,
Your strength in physicality and patience,
Impressed me greatly.
I didn't want to stop dancing with you,
I didn't want to stop learning new moves,
Loved being flipped in the air,
Twirled about and flung.
I wasn't sure how you felt,
But it seemed as if you tried hard,

Christmas Tree~Status Update (41)

Submitted by Kassady on Tue, 12/23/2014 - 16:31

Christmas Tree
My face matches the lights,
The smell of fresh fir tree filling the room,
Glitter sparkles,
Gold glows,
The room is lit by smiles and twinkle lights.
Red ribbon streaming down,
Angel watching from above,
With so delicate a face.
Excitement from head to toe,
Gravity seems to have taken a break,
As I bounce about merrily,
Joyfully humming a jolly tune,
And enjoying the feeling of Christmas.

Follow Your Heart: Hindu and Christian Texts Speak Out on Popular Mantra

Submitted by Hannah D. on Mon, 12/22/2014 - 20:30

I recently picked up The Ways of Religion, edited by Roger Eastman, at the library. In it, essays by religious experts and leaders are mixed with actual excerpts from sacred texts to do the explaining of each major world religion.

Interestingly, the introduction to the first chapter, Hinduism, mentioned that many Hindus believe Christianity to be a type of one of their own particular paths to enlightenment, bhakti yoga. I started reading through the sacred texts of Hinduism and came to very different conclusions. See for yourself.

Adonza Lorenzo

This is just something I thought of having been reading the story of Don Quixote. If you haven't read it, it's really quite good. But Don Quixote is a gentleman who makes believe he is a knight and goes throughout the country seeking adventures. He chose a young woman to be 'his lady', whose name was Adonza Lorenzo of the city of Toboso, but he changed it to be more like what a knights lady should have, and he called her 'Dulcinea del Toboso' when she was really only a country girl who had smiled at him years ago.

David Spencer looked down into Claudia's face.
"Yow seem extra happy today, Miss Claudia. May I take the liberty to ask why?"
"Yes, you may!" Claudia laughingly replied. "My dear friend from back at my old home is coming on September thirty-first to spend a whole month with me, and I can't wait! I have missed her so much since we moved, and am so pleased that she will be able to make it for a visit."
"I am very happy for you, Miss Claudia! What is your friend like?"

God Is Power

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 12/21/2014 - 16:37

God is a light in the day and the night
God is my strength and God is my might
God gave us laws that He wrote upon stone
God gave us cities and God gave us homes
God is my refuge and hiding place
God made the stars the skies and all space
God is Almighty and full of great power
The Lord is my God every day every hour
God gives us faith even when storm is toss'd
God shines a light when our sight is lost
He holds our hands when fear is so strong
When times are troubled He gives us a song
