Devoted, Committed

Landscapes
Painted in
People and adventure
Backgrounds of gold
And silver and white
Purity abounds and
Laughter abides
By the rules of what I
Find amusing
Scripts
Penned by my
Own lavish hand
Committed to optimism
But devoted to
Realism
In every other way
That someone can

Football Game~ Infatuation & Desire (48)

Submitted by Kassady on Mon, 02/09/2015 - 05:38

Football Game
You'll have your arm,
Wrapped around me,
Leaning into you
We'll sit,
Watching intently,
Exclaiming while proclaiming,
Full of team spirit,
And large quantities of chips.
You'll laugh in my hair,
And I'll shake my head,
Cheesy commercials,
And rowdy player's personalities.
Excitedly we'll jump up,
Yelling at the screen,
And then, settling back down,
You'll pull me closer,
Heart beating against me,
As if you'd just made the touchdown,

Little King

Missing a dead friend is a strange thing
Because I still talk to you when I get ready in the morning
I pretend you're just outside the shower curtain as I shampoo my hair
And I always politely ask you to turn around when I grab my towel

Yeah I guess it's a little weird but everyone grieves in their own ways

Like I always tear up a little when I hear your favorite songs come on my phone
"Drama Queen" has forever been ruined for me
It was my nickname for you, like when I'd jokingly call you short
Even though you're taller than me

Little Feet~Taking it Personal (47)

Little Feet
I miss your little feet,
Stomping through the halls,
The sounds you would make,
And the chaos you caused.
I miss calling your name,
Setting your plate at the table,
Checking to see if you've wondered,
Making sure you're being helpful.
Your smile and constant questions,
Your toys all over the house,
The way you drove me crazy,
The way you put things in your mouth.
I miss the even number,
Having to explain you,
Worrying about you,
Keeping an eye on you,

Land of the Free

*a/n* Let me preface this by saying that I am a proud citizen of the United States of America. However, this has been bothering me for a while. I know that some people on here will disagree with certain aspects of this essay, and that's fine! I mean no disrespect. I'm simply trying to put a few things that I have gathered from some fairly recent experiences into perspective. Just to caution you, this has a lot of older themes such as racism and general discrimination.

Fine Tuning, Multiverses, and the Gambler's Fallacy

Submitted by Hannah D. on Fri, 01/30/2015 - 05:41

This universe we belong to has been organized into the homiest possible arrangement. And that extends beyond the wildflower bouquets that complement your living room décor beautifully. The laws that govern the universe are fine-tuned in the most impossibly precise manner to make life possible.

Let's take a glimpse at this. From essay The Dawkins Confusion by Alvin Plantinga, we are told:

The Old Oak Tree

Submitted by Gina I. on Tue, 01/27/2015 - 23:19

Come to me at the old oak tree,
Where the ravens dawdle and play.
Come to me at the old oak tree,
When the world has gone black and grey.

Remember there, the old oak tree?
As children we played and laughed.
Remember me, at the old oak tree?
The day I died and left.

Forever, you promised at the old oak tree.
"Forever! Beyond!" you would say.
I cry as I wait at the old oak tree,
For the love lost in a day.

Destiny of Love

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Tue, 01/27/2015 - 20:05

Love is patient, love is kind,
It is not a word, not a mime.
Love is not a feeling, big, or small,
It's something more, if I recall.
There is no greater love than this:
What?! To die? Not give a kiss?
T'was with a kiss Christ was betrayed,
Soon before He His true love displayed.
It was on a cross that my Lord died,
T'was His love for me that pierced His side.
God sent down His only Son,
And He the victory has won.
The dove was the sign sent from above;
The sacrifice was His destiny of love.

Refuge (another Song)

Refuge

(Verse 1)

My Refuge, He won’t move or sway
He’ll stay with you no, won’t fade
He’s a steadfast structure
Immoveable in all weather
Strong like a rock, great as a tree
A strong hold for a pilgrim like me
Just remember this word is true
God’s not gonna let go of you

(Chorus)
When the rain starts to pound against your life
Don’t bow down to doubt or strife
Whenever you think you’re gonna lose
Just remember He’s your refuge

Sunrise Smile

Submitted by Madeline on Mon, 01/26/2015 - 16:46

you've got that
something-something
that's undefinable
and undeniable
buoyancy lives
in your smile
pinks and reds and
golds and tans
and rays of purified light
it's mirrored in everyone who sets their sight
on that sunrise
of lifted cheeks and
parted lips
setting off a chain reaction
of crinkled eyes
when
happy slips
and bursts
into a person
and it's you
