The Cleverest Boy

Ethan Amos, clever boy,
There's nothing you can't do.
Why, you could tame a lion
And box a kangaroo.

You could go deep in the jungle
And pretend you are an ape.
You could also go to prison,
But only to escape.

I wouldn't be surprised at all
To see you fly a plane
Oh, you're in a submarine?
There's no need to explain.

I heard you went to Spain last week.
Do please tell me more.
Oh! There was a bull fight?
You were the matador?!

Marine Biodiversity

Part of developmental biology studies how the environment affects the diversity and development of various organisms. Such factors can be abiotic, biotic, or symbiotic. Here, I focus on oceanic ecosystems and organisms to epitomize each type of factor and how they (in these cases) improve biodiversity.

Grandpa and Grandma

Taking a walk or hike won’t matter,
Her happiness will never shatter.
Reading poems for a talent show,
Makes her face turn all aglow.
She’s my Grandma, yes it’s so
My Grandpa wed her long ago.
Sixty years they’ve spent together
In hot, in medium, or in cold weather.
Grandpa dunking in the river,
I remember seeing him shiver.
He makes burgers on the grill,
And each day he takes a big pill.
He knows all kinds of plants and trees,
And to his flowers come lots of bees.
Grandpa taught me many things,

Javi's Cafe, closing thoughts.

I mentioned briefly two years ago at the beginning of Javi that it was an experiment. I didn’t have a plot. I had three characters, and I had a café. I wanted to see where that would take me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was a fun challenge, but I couldn’t have done it without my apricotpie readers. Your comments really shaped the story and gave me ideas to go off of (and forced me to think of some sort of conflict!).

Ward of New Dawn (probably to be changed)

Submitted by Brighid on Fri, 12/11/2015 - 02:17

Death was never something to fear for herself, she knew. For all of her kind, the embrace of eternity had almost appealed.

There were so many, though, who depended upon her. She knew that this, too, was a hollow concern, for all things were taken into account. The moment her heart ceased to beat, her charges were out of her hands and into another’s. One just as capable, one just as worthy. The Hand would never choose one less than able to protect the sacred world. She herself had been honored, once she learned to accept its existence.

The Road to Joy - Chapter I

Submitted by Arthur on Wed, 12/09/2015 - 07:23

The evening was the fourteenth of December. The year was 1873. It was bitterly cold outside, yet I sat comfortable inside, warmed by a fire, and content and happy. But I could have been outside, chilled by the frosty fingers of the wind, and been just as content and happy. How could anyone not be who was in my place? God had blessed me, immensely. I was not yet twenty-three years of age and I had more than I could ask for.
