Primal Again and other snippets

1. Primal Again

eyes scan
wide space and
I am back

on the savanna
where I hunted
as a cub

my knuckles
in the wet ground
roots poke my

weak peachy flesh
but soon, that human skin
is again calloused paw-pads

I am back,
I am a hunter
again

all fours,
primal, and throw
my head skyward

and I roar
like my father taught me
they know I am coming

they scatter, all of them
as I run, I charge
they are no match

Made Whole

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 01/17/2016 - 23:39

From conception I had issues. I had a bad heart.
There was hope for me, yet when I was born I was dead, with a mangled and crippled body.
But I was revived.
I was given life.
I was given a new heart.
I was ridiculed by many of the people around me. Pitied by some. Encouraged by few. I had days of wishing to die in my crippled state, or even to make my state worse out of spite.
But throughout my life each crippled and disabled limb was made right and new. It was a long, slow process, but it was a journey of beauty.

Abortion, Christianity, and William Wilberforce

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Fri, 01/15/2016 - 19:38

Hi All! I am a blogger and writer. I am also a homeschool graduate, college graduate (as of May 2016), sister, and daughter. This is one of my recent blog posts. Hope you all enjoy!

--Abortion, Christianity, and William Wilberforce--

You’re probably thinking…”What in the world do all these random things have in common? Oh, okay, well I can see the connection with abortion and Christianity. Okay, and the mess we’re in, obviously. But what about that random guy Wilberforce? Don’t I remember that name from my 10th grade history class?”

Convictions: Command vs Application

Submitted by Kyleigh on Fri, 01/15/2016 - 04:44

In the last two years or so, I’ve thought often about convictions, particularly the way they play out in conservative circles. I was raised with a lot of books and CDs from "ultra-conservative" circles and benefited from them. However, I often accepted the rationales given for their values without question, and there was definitely a time when I was lock-step with most of their teachings.

Elephants, Pluralism, and Huixtocihuatl

Submitted by Hannah D. on Thu, 01/14/2016 - 05:17

There is an old fable that tells of a few blind men and an elephant. One feels the tail; he thinks an elephant is a flyswatter. Another feels the leg, and thinks an elephant is like a tree trunk.

A third blind man feels a tusk; to him, an elephant is a spear. To the blind man who feels an ear, an elephant is a fan. And to the blind man who feels the elephant's side, it is a wall.

Cast Off

A splintered breath catches somewhere
in the place between your collarbones and
trachea
you wish you could find it and
reclaim it
but you
instead are left to stumble
over the words that were
wheezed
when it hit
like a deftly flicked
pin
the anomaly
regretfully
was a
fifth
of a sentence
and your eyes wheel
whorl in way
of a figure-eight search
then drop down
with remorse
as your wrought insides lurch

Looking Back

Submitted by Brighid on Wed, 01/13/2016 - 18:09

By my side is a beautiful man
Around my finger a tiny hand
Time is slipping away like sand
I realize it looking back

Crayon sketches on the bathroom door
Lego pieces on the floor
I never thought I could take much more
But now I am looking back

Heavy breathing, gentle sighs
Fluttering lashes and tired eyes
Soft whispers and lullabies
I feel it when looking back

Now they’re gone
Flown away
I close my eyes again today
And smile while looking back

The Evil Laugh of Arthur

Submitted by James on Tue, 01/12/2016 - 05:47

The evil laugh of Arthur
Descended down the stair;
It made the night seem darker,
And warned me to beware...

Lest craziness engulf me,
Consuming all my brain:
And nothing then be left me,
Save conscience gone insane.

The evil laugh of Arthur
It fills this house's halls,
When he's up late, much farther
Than wisdom e're allows.

His friends will moan, thus pleading,
"Oh, Arthur, please, forbear!
Cease and desist thy leading,
Of all unto despair!"
