Violante stared in shock and almost horror. Tulzir howled with rage as he and Krayan began to search for any clue of the attackers. Snapping out of her daze, Violante dropped to her knees to check for vital signs. There were none. The way Tulzir had reacted, she was hesitant to tell them.

Chapter Two

The morning of my flight, Mom woke me at five a.m. and told me to hurry downstairs so we could all have one last family breakfast together. She was planning on meeting me in LA after a couple of weeks, but Dad needed to stay because of his job at the hospital. Being a doctor didn’t allow for very much time off.

I slumped down the stairs, barely coherent, and forced a couple bites of raspberry waffle down my throat. It didn’t taste nearly as good as it should have.

“Don’t talk to any people you don’t know,” Dad said after a sip of his coffee.

Those Shy Girls

1. Bird girl

She speaks to them,
Whispers to them,
Flies with them—

Her soul is a part of them.

The wind plays with her heart
Singing to her
They spiral up, and up
Away from her grasp
She longs to join them, but, but—

They hold her back.

2. A Mermaid Soul

She calls to the sea
Uttering to the waves
They ebb at her white toes
Their foam engulfs her
Salty breaths

She is at home.

3. No Mirrors or Makeup

Three Sonnets I Wrote at Two AM

#1:
2 AM,
I must be lonely,
Curled up like a clam,
Feeling everything but regretful only.
I say things I would never,
Like "I love you so much",
And thinking I'm clever,
by hiding my true touch,
and sense of religious beliefs.
I am friends with the prosecutors,
The witches and nuns stricken by griefs,
With the lovers, the sinners and the executors.
I am conflicted by desire,
I say "Just a brother" and feel like a liar.

Chapter One

There was a time when I used to be the go-to girl for any Tipping Point related information. I knew everything: when they were born, their full names, the times; Wesley’s favorite color, Laughlin’s preferred form of transportation, Hector’s most inspiring quote. It was a hobby of mine, finding things out about them and filing it away for later use. Except it never got much use. Despite the fact that I sent my friends their then-EP and every video I could find, I seemed to be the only one in California who cared about them.

Chapter Two
“Genie!” my mom’s voice calls up to me from downstairs. I intently stare at my computer screen trying to drink as much of today’s history lesson as I can before I have to go downstairs to eat.
--Little did Einstein know that his best invention would be turned against humanity in the worst possible way. The damage done by the atomic bomb was insurmountable, causing many to--

"There she goes again"

It's happening. I'm leaving. I'm becoming a storybook character. I'm moving away - far away. I know one person there. I will be starting all over. This is something I've always kind of wanted to do, and I am terrified. And I can't wait. What is it about me that makes me want to throw my entire life into the craziest venture I can come up with? Because this is insane. Truly and certifiably so. And I'm doing it. I am. You can't change my mind. An army of tanks led by a cannibalistic group of Nazis couldn't. But oh, I am so scared.
And yet here I come.

Chapter One
I hate it when he texts me. It’s not him, it’s not texting, it’s not that I don’t like receiving meaningful texts from my best friend. But it’s the fact that he would text me in the middle of the day purely for the stupid reason of sending me a smiley face. Not only does this mean that I’ve just received a senseless text which wasted my minutes, but I am now stuck checking my phone every other minute to see if he’ll send me another text.
“Genie, darling, if I see you look at your phone again while on shift I’m going to throw it in the trash.”
