Sarah Died: Chapter 1: I Die

Submitted by Elizabeth Anne on Tue, 12/03/2013 - 20:07

Five years ago, I died.
It was my birthday, a wonderful day. Everyone was happy, but the sky knew what was to come. Even as tears of joy flowed from my eyes as I waved my hands and jumped up and down with delight, tears of sorrow dripped slowly across the windows of my parents’ home, trying to warn me of what was to come. Perhaps, if I had listened, I would have known how to change it- how to make myself heartless, so there would be nothing to break. Perhaps, I could have saved him. But I didn’t see the tears of the future; I only saw the joys of the present.

This time, they walked with purpose towards the mirror. Even though Raven was still the only one who could see it she knew where it was and they had marked its presence so that it never took them by surprise again. Walking confidently into the void, they found themselves dropping out into the flames and took only a moment to look around before they made their way to the shop, oblivious to the emptiness of the streets.

Not On Me

It's a feeling of being misplaced
The best way to describe it would be
I guess
Unease
Or lack of satisfaction
I'm not morose
Or upset
Or even really that sorry
I don't want to go back
At first, things are easy
Everything is a breeze
Eleven months and
Already unraveling
I think
But--at least--
Yeah
It's definitely not on me

Chapter II
Alice opened the door. “Oh, hi Jill! Hi Ashlyn!” She said.

“Hi, Alice. Mom’s waiting for us in the car. Are you ready to go?”

“Yep. Be right back. I’m going to tell mom bye,” Alice said.

“Are you going now, Alice?” Mrs. Gladden asked.

“Um-hm,” Alice said. "Ashlyn and Jill and her mom are out there waiting for me. I was just going to say goodbye to you.”

“Oh? Well, bye, dear. I’ll be seeing you. Do you think you’ll be here for lunch?”

“No, mom. I might be, but I doubt it. Bye, now!”

“Bye, Alice.”

The Mystery of the Lost Box

Written by Hannah L Andrews

Chapter I
“When are you going to get it?” Alice Gladden asked excitedly.

“Dad said we’re going to try to tomorrow morning!” Jill Malek answered with equal excitement.
“Tomorrow?” Ashlyn Trey said, enthusiastically clapping her hands together.

The three friends sat on the porch swing, talking about the horse Jill was going to get.

“Have you told Olivia Martin?” Alice asked, her eyes glowing.

“No. I was hoping that we could surprise her by riding to her house on my horse!”

Sarah Dies
They said it wouldn’t end,
They said it would go on.
They said our love would be
Brighter than the sun.

It seems they didn’t know
What terrors would unfold.
It seems they didn’t know
Of deaths soon to be told.

The lights flew from the dark,
The blackness didn’t clear.
The blindness soon engulfed him-
Death whispered in his ear.

In Which Mirrors have Ratings
Back at the lab, Cameron took them into a dark room with a projector. Raven almost asked why he had a projector when he had enough money to buy all the widescreen TVs in the world, but she held her tongue. Instead she watched quietly as he put up an image of the riddle with certain passages highlighted that he had created on the ride over. Up next to it he put an enlarged image of himself in a mirror. Not an ordinary mirror either.

Question for those who have read Martje...

Submitted by Sarah Bethany on Thu, 11/28/2013 - 01:47

Sorry - I know this isn't a fiction piece; just a question! I started my Martje story in the fall of 2011, and have written over 700 handwritten pages so far! The rough draft of Book One is posted here, and it's going to get serious re-writes before I even glance at publishers' addresses. In the past two years, I've lived and worked (sometimes even found housing for free!) to make my storytelling my main focus, and I want to continue this lifestyle with a potential writer's residency. I'm applying to several, and they are asking for a chapter sample, but I don't know which is best.
