Six poetic definitions of a poem

Submitted by Keri on Fri, 06/11/2010 - 18:59

1. (This one I gave and dedicated to my beloved music teacher)

What is a poem?

Dancing melody

Unsung

Sweeping harmony

Without music

Saying prose

As if it were song

This is a poem

2.

Words set to meter

Words set to rhyme

Something repeated

At least one time

3.

What is a poem?

A poem is a feeling

A poem is a thought

A poem is inexplicability

Put into words

4. (Inspired by a friend called Renee's definition)

Hark!

Submitted by Bernadette on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 17:30

Hark! A song is playing

Singing along the plains

Past the rushing rivers

Past the waving trees

All along the scarlet horizon

Till it finds the sea!

Dance Me Down

It’s time to move.
Leave me alone, let me dance.
I’m not your girl, I’m not your friend.
You don’t have a chance.

I don’t have time for you.
Just let me breathe a minute.
The music is intoxicating;
Ten minutes will do it.

Dance me down
If you can.
Make it loud,
Make it fast.
Get it now?
I can dance
Dance me down.
Dance me down.

Can you do it?
Move, dance, live the beat.
Catch the irony.
Close your eyes, let yourself feel it.

My random thoughts about Fall Out Boy's song "Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On a Bad Bet" ... kinda random... :]

Ahhh, there’s nothing like a good Coke and a Fall Out Boy song. Apart from trying to figure out what the lyrics they’re singing mean, it’s also often difficult to hear what exactly they’re saying. Nevertheless, Fall Out Boy is EPIC.

Writing---An incredible gift

Notebook flipped open to an empty page

Pencil in hand, eraser in range

A mess of ideas desperately waiting to be written

But yet I think to myself, "Where is my inspiration?!"

Empty, like a useless vessel, I feel

If I was really blessed with such an incredible gift

Why am I not pouring it out to the world?

Oh what a God-given gift I have blessed with!

The gift to design a world of my own

The gift to sing without a voice

The gift to fly on the wings of the wind

Battle Music

Battle Music

I hear the wild martial music,

Strongly then it thrills my soul

And makes bright my eyes with joy.

It weaves a vivid story tale

Of heroes deeds in battles fought,

Of victory and glory.

Then a new strain sounding,

Sadly yet sweetly,

It fills my soul with patient waiting.

And its quiet notes resounding,

Tells me of a love unending,

Of a hope all hopes transcending.

Softer now and sadder still,

The music meets my ears.
