New Year’s resolutions. Those goals we make every year: to try new things, to change those things about ourselves we don’t like. Sometimes they’re a bit too lofty – going from exercising once in while to working out for an hour a day doesn’t usually stick. Sometimes it seems as if we sell ourselves short, settling for something that doesn’t truly make a change, just so that we can say we kept our resolution.

A gusty autumn wind was blowing around the corners and eaves of the mansion when I awoke the next morning. I scarcely remembered arriving the night before, I had been so exhausted, but now I was well-rested and eager for a good breakfast to begin the day. Climbing out of my soft, warm bed (that I considered far too large for just one person), I crossed to the window and pulled the cord to draw back the heavy curtains.

This place I love's my destination:

A town with little population

But without too much isolation.

I'll rest beneath sky's dome.

Can’t stop my hearts acceleration!

Of slowing it shows no indication.

I simply cannot resist temptation

To find my way back Home.

Note: this is a new story that I'm working on, and I hope that by posting it here, I will a) get some feedback, and b) have some incentive to keep working on it instead of stuffing into some obscure file on my desktop somewhere. LOL.
