Fitch's Kemper [1]

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sat, 03/11/2017 - 05:25

Normally, noise of any kind was unwelcome in the Texas University's private library, but somehow that same mellow voice was allowed to croon on by the hour.

It was also normal for Byron Fitch to be annoyed by even the slightest rustle of a page while he was studying, but today was different. The odd medley of sacred hymns and pop songs came across as ridiculously soothing when hummed by Kris Kemper's low voice.

Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax

I've written on apricotpie for five and a half years, and never once have I gone a month without posting. In fact, I don't recall ever cutting it this close. There are six hours left in the last day of the month and the only thing I have to show you is an essay about how I don't have anything to show you.
Sometimes I worry about my future as a writer.

“Cream soda?”
“Sure.”
He tossed the old-fashioned glass bottle from hand to hand as they waited in line. It made her nervous; she couldn’t help but fear that he’d drop it. Swiftly back and forth through the air it went, constantly in danger of shattering and completely at his mercy.

Sunlight through the window crack

cannot look away from that

shining something from beyond

more than words, going round and round

Breaking artificial light

raising minds to greater heights

simple beauty it may be

but it's something great to me

Blue skies beg for wind through hair

warmth and light are right out there

how much longer will it be

before it gets a hold of me?

Kinds of knowing... I know for sure

trees are greener than chalkboards
