Heartbreaks and other poems (I'm starting to sense a theme in my titles O.o)

Submitted by little woman on Fri, 04/19/2013 - 16:19

I: Heartbreaks
Lord guard my heart
from me
for many of my heartbreaks
are self-imposed
I'm too temperamental
judgemental
comparing myself
to all whom I see
I form attachments too quickly
pondering love too soon
just to watch
my quick-built castles
fall to dust
I too often view myself
in pure black and white
I too often judge others the same
I'm lost and I'm crying
out for relief
Lord guard my heart
from me

Undone

Note: This poem was inspired by the song Stained Glass Masquerade by Casting Crowns. Enjoy :)

You don’t see beyond the smiling eyes

to seek the truth behind the lies.

The performance in this great parade

is really just a masquerade.

The steps have all been rehearsed.

Holding the Dawn

Submitted by Hannah W. on Sun, 11/29/2009 - 16:54

Slip away in darkness
while I hold off the dawn
hide among the tall rocks
and our flesh is stone for now.

Running, running, hiding, weeping
Dawn is coming, light is breaking
over the crest of the valley
We watch from the mountains, from rocks
and we know time is slipping.

No! Run away! Flee far with the night,
I will hold off the dawn
I will stay here and fight
I would rather die than see morning,
fall dead here than live tomorrow,
far away.
