Heart Hungry

A/N: I wrote this about a year ago, and am a little confused about the ending. It's a little strange, but interpret it as you will! :)

A tremor shook through the heart, disrupting his steady, rhythmic dance in his Possessor’s chest. The heart was startled by this sudden movement-it was so very unfamiliar. His standard routine was rarely disrupted. The tremor became fiercer and the heart determinedly pounded, trying to return to his normal rhythm.
The heart felt something that he couldn’t quite understand. My Possessor must be scared! He thought. He tried to slow his beating, but his Possessor wouldn’t listen to him. He thumped faster, bouncing wildly around his chamber walls.
But this was so very strange-his Possessor always listened to him if he tried to calm Her when She was frightened. He was confused. He listened to his Possessor’s wishes and realized that this feeling was good….certainly not fright. He felt things that he wished that he could comprehend. The rush of wind, the warmth of an embrace, the joy of laughter.
The heart didn’t know what all of this meant, of course, and was angry when the feelings persisted.

Many years later, the feelings had continued. The heart had become accustomed to them, but now felt jealous. His Possessor was in love, he knew now, for he had become far wiser in these past years.
The heart missed having his Possessor all to himself. She used to love him instead of this human. The heart often wondered how he could be rid of it-the thing that She loved.
He wondered if, maybe, he stopped beating, the Possessor would love him again.
He felt so very hungry for that love. It was like the chocolates that his Possessor adored-the food he longed to eat. He wondered what it would be like, for the feelings and tastes of being loved and cared for had long since eroded away from his senses.
One day, the heart decided. Sixty years had been enough of being unloved and neglected.
His Possessor was sleeping-there were far fewer tremors than usual.
The heart, without a thought, began to slow his pounding.
He felt his Possessor fighting back. Stop! He wanted to cry. This is only for—and he didn’t know how to end the statement. This is only for me.
And, before he could help it, he stopped beating.
The heart was floating. The surrounding space was empty and noiseless. He saw his Possessor on the outside—she smiled at him as though he had done nothing wrong. The heart at last understood. He began to cry, and came to realize that he had human hands, and a face. His Possessor loved him. Love hurt so much more than he had expected. The food was bitter. He had longed for a far different feeling for so many years, a feeling forever unknown now.
As he watched his Possessor drift away, he realized that even with the taste of food on his tongue, even in the face of all the horror he’d caused, he was still hungry.

Wow. I don't really know what to say. You said to interpret the story anyway that I wanted and I don't know what to think. It was very good. How on earth did you come up with something so good?

Haha, thanks :) it was actually for a little contest on another writing website. The last line isn't actually mine, it's from another book (you had to include the line in your short story). It's different from what I normally do, so I'm glad that you liked it.

Confused. That's the only way to describe my thoughts right now. But in a good way. So...it seems like this was the point-of-view of the heart, and the possessor was the human. The only thing that REALLY confused me was this: The heart was floating. The surrounding space was empty and noiseless. He saw his Possessor on the outside—she smiled at him as though he had done nothing wrong. The heart at last understood. He began to cry, and came to realize that he had human hands, and a face.

Do you have an idea of what this is about, or was it just one of those things you write and aren't sure about??

This was very good! Wonderful job!

Yeah, I'm not really sure about what that was representing, lol. I wrote this a while back. I do know that he killed his Possessor in an attempt to make her love him again, which is a little weird. I'm glad you liked it :)

LOL! I liked it! I thought it was very well written.... the end... um... confusing! LOL! As you know. I think ... I'm not sure what I think about that. I thought for a moment that the heart reincarnated into a human... which would be very weird... but... um... yeah. Very different! LOL!
I liked it!
