Chapter Two
Alyssa turned to me and glared.
"I can't believe this is happening! I can't be a cat!!"
"Why not," I asked and pointed to myself, Amber, and Charity. "We are!"
"I'm allergic to cats!"
"So? You'll be the first cat who's allergic to her self!"
Amber, Charity, and I laughed. Alyssa was not amused.
"Okay, look," I said. "Whether or not we want to be cats is irrelevant. The fact is, we are. What's important is what do we do, now that we are cats?"
"Run," said Amber. She and Charity were staring at something behind me. *oh boy,* I thought.
I took a deep breath and asked, "What's behind me?"
"Big, big, big dog." Her voice was getting higher and there was a note of panic.
Alyssa started to turn around to look, but I smacked her with my paw and said, "Don't look, just run!"
One of the nice things about being a cat is that you have twice as many legs to run with. Let me tell you, it came in handy.
I have never run so fast in my whole life! What with the wind in my fur, and the fact that the temperature was quite pleasant for a jog, it would have been invigorating if we weren't running for our lives.
Charity noticed a small hole in something. At the time, she didn't know what it was, all she saw was a hole that we could fit through, but a dog couldn't.
"Follow me, guys," she called. We all threw ourselves through it and heard a loud CLANG! as the dog bashed his head into it. All we heard for the next fifteen mintues was ourselves catching our breath and our hearts pounding loudly, then quieting to a normal beat.
Once the panic left us and we began thinking clearly, it occured to us that we were sitting in a small garbage can.
The smell was staring to bug us, so we left as soon as it sounded safe. We stepped out into a huge junkyard, full of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Course, the fact that I was much smaller than usual helped in the amazing department.
Amber was the first one to speak, "Y-you don't suppose that this is THE Junkyard, do you?"
I looked around. Despite it's awesome-ness, it didn't feel right. "I don't think it is."
"It's too quiet," said Charity. She was right. It was silent. There weren't even any cars going by.
Just then, I had a terrifying thought. "I don't like it, let's get out of here."
Charity and I backed up a few steps, then turned around. Then we saw him. I heard Charity gasp in horror. I felt panic seize my heart, once again. I heard a couple of quiet shrieks which I took to mean that Alyssa and Amber saw him, too.
I was paralyzed with fear, because standing right in front of us, was,(you guessed it), Macavity.
