The Flying Dutchman

The platform was smoky and crowded, people elbowing each other and stepping on toes without care. Soot and smoke hung heavily in the air, blackening the clothes and faces of all there. Through all this, a girl stood, pushing herself as far into a corner as she could, to avoid all the people. Her previously blue dress was now almost black, and her hair, though protected somewhat by a supposedly white sun hat, no longer held traces of the reddish gold it was.

Platonic/Don't Leave Me

I. Just a Girl
Get back over here
Don’t talk to her, talk to me
I don’t like the haughty way
She held her head when she
Told you to come closer
I don’t like her
Heavy red lipstick
I don’t like the way
She reached out and
Hugged your shoulders
I don’t like
Her
Flirting with you.

Westward Ho! part three

Claudia sighed and leaned her head in her hand as she looked out of the small window. Over-all she looked a little bit grave and thoughtful, but there was a sweet smile playing with the corners of her lips, and her grey-green eyes had a twinkle in them. She sighed again, rather gustily this time, and made a comical grimace as she said, "Will September the thirtieth ever come?"
And then she laughed as she read the letter through for the third time.

God is in Control

The twelve-year-old girl laughed as she drew the reigns of her horse in, and tucked a strand of stray wavy brown hair behind her ear. Her pigtail braids were rather loose after her wild gallop across the fields.
"That was fun!" She said to her companion.
"Yeah, it was! I had always wanted to heard cows like that, and now I really have!"
"Me too! It makes me feel like a real cowgirl."

May 11th, 185-
Dearest Claudia,
I was so thrilled to receive your letter and invitation. I accept with great pleasure and excitement the invitation that you have so obligingly sent, and you may expect me on the evening coach in Denton on September 30th.
We are praying that your father's work will prosper, and that your family will have peace about your living situation in town. I know from experience that living in the middle of a big town is not very pleasant.

May 3rd, 185-
My dear Lydia,
It feels as if ages have passed since I moved away from you, and oh! how my heart still aches with missing you. But God knows best, and I am sure that this will be a better job for Papa than the last one was. He is already busy building the new school for the neighborhood, and drawing out the plans for our new home. Right now we are renting a small house in the middle of town, but Papa has bought about 25 acres five miles out of town.

From Sea to Tea

Submitted by Birdy Nicole on Wed, 07/30/2014 - 05:09

Push of from shore!
Cast off the more!
My sweetheart, I’m leaving for sea,
Tell mother, I shall miss her tea.

Heave and then ho!
Tossed high and low!
Hard work away on this galley,
but men are brave, forth we sally.

The rain now pours!
The storm it roars!
But battle, men, against the sea.
Battle now, soon you’ll be free.

Loyalty great!
To die is fate!
All is fair in love and in war
we have much to live and die for.

1. Unnecessary Sharing
He slides his eyes sideways to capture my reaction
I work hard to keep my face unchanged
It’s okay, no big deal
I didn’t ask for his opinion anyway.

2. Emote
Your face is an open book
You can transform into someone else
In an instant
I’m getting tired of trying to keep up
With your mood swings and changes
It’s too hard to help somebody
Who is so far gone.

FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK, ARIA WAS TAKEN IN BY THE TOWN’S physician, Cad had followed the town’s sheriffs the whole way to the physician’s house. His hands kept shaking and he cursed every time he’d ever fumbled for an arrow. Aria, Cad wondered. How could she have learned all of those fighting techniques? She’d never shown me those… But then again, why would she? Cad glanced at Silas who was walking nervously next to him.
