Luminescence

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Wed, 03/27/2019 - 13:55

Oft there come these pitch black nights
Untouched by heaven’s perfect lights
And in those nights we fail to see
Lost in darkness, but alone by no means

For lights soon prick the canvas, black
And with their beams loneliness lack
But carry with them friends, or love
They come with Truth the dark to prove

So lose not hope in blackest dark night
But pray until you see the light
For clarity accompanies luminescence
And faith shines forth in clarity’s presence

Vomitous Giggles

Submitted by Heather Jones on Sat, 11/10/2018 - 01:36

Seems like everyone's
shallow these days;
busy tickling o'er stuff that
doesn't matter much:
dark, vile humor and
even darker smiles,
plastered on broken souls
that forgot the joys of
childhood.

Why is our laughter so
heavy all of a sudden?
Like everyone finds this pain
amusing.
I find it curious that
for whatever reason,
I am least happy when I'm
laughing.

What is missing here?

Divine Author

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Fri, 01/13/2017 - 18:43

a line i hoped he'd never write
a word i'd rather scratch
a turn the story didn't need
i thought so anyways.

my author wrote that stormy bit;
its darkness could be felt.
the rain sent shivers down my spine
and quiv'ring to my lips.

the tunnel dark was hard to grasp
why did it need to mar
the beauty of the written piece
that i had grown to love?

the final end, so sadly broken
but wrought by loving hands;
was mended perfect: tearful joy
finished it at last.

Mold

Submitted by Birdy Nicole on Wed, 07/30/2014 - 05:07

The Mold creeps
Beyond the happy chimney tops
Into forsaken cabin’s corners
Out of rotting rickety cupboards
From decaying trees and logs
Out of boundless time and ancient empires
Beyond the roaming woodlands
Down to the dark depths of depression
Underneath the lowest branches
Beside lethal mires
Into dripping caverns
The Mold creeps
Past blinding darkness
Into the criminal’s damp den and
Out to the bog’s vapors
To torture the weary maiden in her grief

Let Go and Let Me Love You

Submitted by Mary on Wed, 06/25/2014 - 17:31

I’ll never forget the moment
I first told you that I love you,
thinking you’d be happy—
as happy as you’ve made me.
I can’t forget the fear inside,
watching your face fall instead.
Now you’re pushing me away,
telling me I shouldn’t stay,
telling me I shouldn’t love you,
that I’m better off without you,
certain I’d no longer love you,
If I only knew...

A Light

Submitted by The Way on Thu, 04/04/2013 - 20:09

From the Darkness
Rises a Light
Standing strong
Pure and Holy
The Shadows flee
Terror in their eyes
For this one cannot be chained

Paper Fires

Submitted by Hannah W. on Mon, 08/01/2011 - 03:11

**It's short, but there was nothing else to post it with.**

flick, flame
lick, claim
it starts to burn.

sparks fly in empty sky
no stars, no light to see.

we’re starting paper fires
burning bright as supernovas—

sparks find my empty mind
all I want is light to see.

we’re starting paper fires
bright, bright burning—

like supernovas, they don’t leave
anything behind.
