Wolverines

Submitted by j. Glen pollard on Mon, 03/04/2013 - 17:08

The elusive wolverine (Gulo gulo) has a fearsome reputation. It is the largest member in the weasel family. They are ferocious and are feared by every animal in the woods and mountains. They live in cold climates, have a small amount of enemies and are great at hunting.

Silent Killer

(I haven't posted a poem for quite some time. This is a poem I wrote a couple of months back. It's short and sweet, and I didn't really put much effort into writing it. But still, I do hope you enjoy it!)

Padded feet crushed the snow
The glaciers ahead matched her eyes
Ice-blue, with a killer glow
She waited

Her magnificent fur dusted white
Her hunger to hunt grows
Even in the blinding light
She waited

Low flat plains and rolling hills, Baltic Sea and Nordic Chill,

Timber, Copper, Iron ore, This is Finland evermore.

Winter Olympic Athletes, Conquering many great feats,

Saku Koivu, Hockey star, Proving that all Finns could go far.

Owls Reindeer Rabbits Moose, Woodpecker Bunting Cuckoo Goose,

Finns are related to the critters of their home, and the geographic terrain the creatures roam.

Christian Religion, Theology, Finns glued to faith, just like me,

Lutheran, Presybeterian, Evangelical, Finnish Religion, thought not known to all.

Shadowed Moon 3

“To tell the truth, I don’t know where to start. My fathers name is Ronertan and is a merchant ship captain, so he is gone pretty much all year long. That is his life and he loves it more than even family. Not that my father is selfish or mean he just loves his work.

Spring

The stag pricks his ears, the birds flutter.
The coon crawls from his burrow
And the bear awakes.
A soft call from a bird alerts others, they pick up in a great chorus of voices.
The stag peeks out from under brush and begins to look for food.
The bear shuffles from his cave and the raccoon follows.
At first they are timid; sniffing, sensing, and searching for danger.
Slowly they come out.
The stag munches silently on fresh grass, far better than brittle winter bark.
The birds return to the places they recognize and sing joyfully.

Yearning to Fly

Submitted by Bernadette on Tue, 01/06/2009 - 17:21

It may seem like nonsense, but it is so true
That many have never flew
There is the cat, which yearns to fly as the sparrow flutters
There is the spider, which begs to fly like the buzzing fly
There is the dog, which yelps when the bird flies beyond his reach
There is the rabbit, which leaps to fly, yet falls to the ground
There is the pig, which thinks pigs fly, but when he tries, he fails at first sight
There is the hamster, which jumps off the bed, hoping to fly though never will

SPRING!

Spring! What a wonderful time of year it is! When all the animals give a loud shout for the long, cold winter days are over. When the butterflies go around happily from the newly sprung flowers. Color just seems to burst everywhere all of the sudden, so bright and cheerful, it is amazing if one can live through another gray, dull winter.
