Musical

Lightning flashes across the sky,
Thunder rumbles a lullaby;
Soft and deep, very sweet and low,
Wind hums along, breathy and slow.
Tree branches gently dip and sway;
Waltzing the moonlit night away.
Raindrops kissing the cool night air,
Stars twinkling with light-beams fair.
Rustic theatre sets the scene
For a concert and play serene.
Handiwork of a mighty Lord:
A musical you can afford.

The Strait Gate

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Wed, 04/27/2016 - 03:23

The gate that we enter is narrow
The passersby are few
The clouds above us are threatening
The fog is thickn’ing gloom

The brothers around us are fainting
Our blood is mixed with our sweat
The air is fraught with dark danger
The ground with pitfalls and snares.

But, hark! The cries of angels
Lo! The sound of song
Hear the voice of heavenly anthems
Ring out on higher ground.

Don’t give up, my brother
Stay strong, my sister dear
Though the war around is raging
Fight on to higher ground.

"Do You Still Love Me?" (Edited)

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 04/17/2016 - 14:16

"Do you love me?"

"Why do you ask?"

He tickled her.

"Stop it. You're silly. Do you?"

"Of course. You know I do."

"I just like to make sure you still do."

"Why would I ever stop?"

She chewed on the inside of her lip before responding.

"What if...I become ugly or sick?"

"I didn't marry you for your good looks, dearest, and I didn't marry you for your health. I married you for your heart and soul."

"What if we can't have children?"

Incandescence

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 04/10/2016 - 15:36

Incandescent joy
This is not a ploy
Happiness today
Hold it not at bay
Let the light so glow
Everyone will know
Seems I cannot wait
Jitters won't abate
Inexplicable
Patience workable
Be still oh my heart
Carry on your part
Feelings shan't prate
It's well worth the wait

Routing

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Wed, 04/06/2016 - 11:41

You are obsessive
Overprotective
I'm sightless and dull
Boxed, with no hole
What I cannot see
Must be best for me
If I'd understand
I'd have more on hand
It's a false calling
Surely I'm falling
My love is annulled
And my life controlled
Drowning, and flailing
I'm senselessly failing
Questions of doubting
Arguments routing
I'll hear it no more
On faith I will soar

Fear

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 03/27/2016 - 14:02

The beast of fear is drawing near;
Dear Lord what shall I do?
I'm weak and poor and harrowed here,
But I must turn to You.

My faith is small, my strength is gone,
I have no hope, no gain;
Wallowing here, I see the One:
He took my sin and shame.

My brokenness, my finite mind,
Is lost in His great love;
And looking up I see the cross,
With fear nailed up above.

He put it there, writ' with His blood,
And gave His all, for me,
So I could rest with peace of mind,
Knowing that I am free.

"I didn't marry you for children, either. I married you because you've got God as your King. Good enough?"

"Yes."

So Blessed

The fully loaded car was running and music was playing. Sunbeams reflected off of the windshield while the light danced around patches of grime left behind by grasshoppers and pesky birds.

"Let it go...let it GOOOOOO!!!!!!!!"

I think Gretchen purposefully put a Disney soundtrack in before I picked up the kids. She knows how much I detest that stuff.

Greg waived at his sister in the rearview mirror and tried to tell himself that she wasn't smirking at him.

"Prankster."

"What'd you say, Uncle Greg?"

For Nanny

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Mon, 03/07/2016 - 15:15

For Nanny with love, for many precious years
Of joining in laughter and drying up tears,
For prayer and encouragement, tender and true,
For the times of welcoming with "I love you."
A beautiful heart given beautiful hands
To pour out her love and fill up all demands.
Short in stature; a fearless warrior and bold;
Every life touch'd will miss her wisdom of gold.
