Mizbeah's Lament
I once knew
I once knew
On the crest of the hill
Why are we so blind?
Why can’t we see? A veil lies between The real and the seen More than we can imagine Even if we can’t glimpse Beyond Don’t stare at the veil too long It blinds our hearts And doubts, if left unchecked, Turn our hearts Away from all his love The living water To wander in the desert For you don’t heal the hurting By wounding their faults Even their whispers of truth Rest on lies Why do we turn Back to the tombs He’s called us out Fools Like you Like me Like us Inspired by the blindness of Samuel of Hunter and the Circle in Green by Ted Dekker As I walk the worn path I see the marks of Christians stretched far beyond my reaching grasp, but as the finger traces Your cross upon my brow, Your victory shines through me. We are a witness.
The dearth of home and rest. We are want. We are need. We are bleeding. Our wounds match Yours in a transparent aspect. Unity.
Ariach swung again, thrusting at my side.
I swung with all my might, trying to knock his sword away. The collision of our blades rang out over the crowd’s roar.
Vibrations shook my blade, and it fell to the ground. Ariach's dagger remained fixed at my chest. I sank to my knees.
I was dead. There was no doubt about that. Ariach reached over and cut my helmet strap. He stared at me for a long time. I wondered what was going through his mind. A tear rolled down his cheek.
He bent down, raising his sword high-
And handed it to me.
Neighbor
Where?
Where am I?
“At my inn. You were unconscious
When he brought you here.”
I decided to start posting 2 chapters at a time because I have 20 written and it would take over a year posting one chapter a month... So here's chapters four and five... enjoy! :)
Chapter Four: Not Happy - Joyful
Two Years Later
Drums beat heavily outside Rakeyna’s walls.
Step into the river.
Step into eternity.
Water licks about my shoulders, tugging at my hair so it swirls about me like water weeds. I take one step, then another. Lopsided pebbles wiggle under my bare feet, threatening to push my feet away. Fish peer out from underneath the overhanging banks. One brushes against my legs, leaving only ripples to show its passage.
