The Bright New Year

Submitted by Hannah W. on Tue, 01/06/2009 - 14:50

'Another year has passed us by,'
say the old and weary
while the young and starry-eyed
see a bright new future nearing

'Times of trouble 'round the bend'
but we see a hopeful light,
this can't be very end
we see with a different sight

Out on the horizon,
glowing like the great warm sun
not setting-- it's rising
and toward it we will run and run

Meeting our fate head on,
brave, and bold, and true
and young and strong and wise beyond
our years-- that's me and you

Our Joan of Arc

Submitted by Hannah W. on Sat, 11/29/2008 - 21:46

She rode on a white horse,
that unforgettable day
she sat, back straight
head held high
the reigns in her hand
dressed all in white
like the lady warrior
she had pride in her eyes
a fight in her spirit,
our Joan of Arc

She rode on a white horse
and led us,
we marched,
flags waving, banners high
our hearts beating defiantly,
strength and hope and pride
and our warrior rode
like she was riding into battle
so brave,
our Joan of Arc

It's Okay to Smile

Submitted by Hannah W. on Tue, 11/18/2008 - 15:53

It's okay to smile,
It's okay to laugh
even though the ones we love
from this life and world do pass

It's okay to dance
feeling music and joy,
even though we know that death
is something we can't avoid

It's okay to love
and give your heart away,
even though you know it might
be broken to pieces someday

It's okay to grin,
to be happy isn't wrong,
even though the ones we love
from our sides have now gone

Love

Submitted by Brianna on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 22:50

Love is born in gentle breeze
come to blow through silent leaves
stirring round, all things still
by the power of His will

Love is born in soft cool earth
for the seeds to break, give birth
now to aim for higher things
to the sky they stretch, for wings

Love is born in depth of blue
close, the sky bends over you
now it bursts with brighter joy
for that little baby boy

Love is born in waving grass
silver green, and so to pass
touch his garment, let him ask
for his glance to you is cast

Butterfly

Submitted by Hannah W. on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 01:45

I hold not sword nor saber,
nor knife or arrow or bow,
nor all the money in the world,
not bronze or silver or gold

But there upon my palm
rests more power than all of those,
its weightless form is worth
much more than a treasure trove

It will soar above the mountain,
and go wheeling to the sky,
it will fly across the ocean
and travel far and wide

The feathery touch,
the breifest glimpse,
the splash of color,
a living wish

Answered Prayers

Submitted by AmandaLC on Sun, 07/20/2008 - 00:40

You’re here for good now little one
Just in time too, my heart was aching
Remember those who were on your side
Now you have a chance at God and a good life
It didn’t seem like it was going good, but you are a tough little boy
Prayers for you have wrapped around the world
You are full of life, now you can show the rest of the world what I already see
Remember this for me: Jesus is on your side
Nothing is impossible, I see that now
I had a hard time keeping up
But when I looked at your face hope grew little by little

For Jerusalem

Submitted by Heather on Thu, 06/12/2008 - 01:58

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

The city torn by age-old war

The holy city of the Jews

Razed by years of war

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

The holy city of the kings

The city of David, Solomon, Judah

The symbol of hope that God brings

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

The city Abraham’s children founded

Where love and laughter once had shown

Now death and dying lay mounded

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

Despair and Deliverance

Submitted by James on Sun, 06/01/2008 - 01:52

Halls drip all around me, halls wrought out of stone
Etched so from a mountain of malice and hate;
Like unto a grave, this room chilleth my bone –
Pursuing my soul to its perishing fate.

Why should I have lived, so to see this dark day?
Hell’s fire reached my home, for my heart, so to tear.
Eternally, cruel – nay! My soul cannot say!
Recalling what happened is too hard to bear.

Stepping Backwards

Submitted by Timothy on Wed, 04/30/2008 - 20:05

A racehorse held by the restraining gate
I see the prize I strive to win
Excitement, desire to run the race
But only with your consenting grace
Approving these storms within

Uncertain, timid without a clue
I see the prizes yet cannot choose
Indecision, a falter before the day
Waiting for you to lead the way
To show which goal is true

Trusting, stepping out on the edge
Ready now to take the stand
Leaping into the harrowing abyss
Depending on you to protect in this
And save me when I land
