Two Lonely Souls

Submitted by Libby on Sun, 11/17/2019 - 05:37

The forlorn child looks up with a smile
Each time the maple leaves sway with the breeze,
Dancing like maidens of scarlet and gold
For the girl at the window who watches the trees,
Seeking escape from a sorrowful world.
Watching the brilliant frocks each leaf wears
Tremble with laughter in the rustling wind,
The sad little girl has forgotten her cares.

All the Unburnt Candles

Submitted by JimWaters on Tue, 03/26/2019 - 16:12

A dragon trapped me in the walls
Of fortress worlds away
My hope: one day a knight would come,
Bring me from dark to day

I took a candle, every night
And with a falt’ring tread
I set its tiny flame upon
The sill close by my bed

One day, I said, someone will see
My silent, wretched cry
My plea to search within my walls
To grab my hand and fly

But unlike that which Psyche saw
My candle showed no face
Just blackness, not a star above,
A plane of empty space

I Need You

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Thu, 04/19/2018 - 00:08

You know that time is wasting away
The clock is ticking to start a brand new day
And I'm just waiting here for you say
I need you

I want for you to hold me close
I'm fading here as everyone knows
But the truth remains I'm still here alone
I need you

Can't you see
I'm waiting here for you to find me
Can't you see
I need you

I wonder if you ever passed me by
I wonder if I'll ever get to call you mine
Sometimes it seems like love is just a lie
I need you

The Lonely

Submitted by Gina I. on Fri, 08/26/2016 - 21:15

All the words never spoken
The notes never written
The dreams never shared
This is the song of the Lonely
Silence screaming its pain

All the tears never cried
The touches never felt
The songs never heard
This is the song of the Lonely
Silence screaming its pain

Never Alone

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 07/31/2016 - 04:17

Now I ponder and wonder why
A man thinks best to take his life
Thinks to end his conscience' strife
His hopeless fingers grip the knife

There is no love to make him thrive
It hurts to breath; to be alive
He's lost his faith, he's lost his drive
It is not worth the pain to strive

It's become a matter of time
Because of this he starts the climb
From conscience to justify crime
But then he hears a quiet rhyme

Dreamers

Submitted by Bridget on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 03:08

As the sun goes down
I hear the sound
Of breezes rustling through the cherry trees.
Calm blue of dusk
White-grey of shadowed blossoms
Pale pink of horizon.
A perfect night for lovers
A perfect night for dreamers
For those who long for what lies past the stars
For those who think wistfully of the dangerous depths of the sea.

For my Grandmother

Submitted by Clare Marie on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 23:05

**Written and dedicated to my grandma in the month of her death, September 2008.....We were very, very close.**

I was alone

And yet not alone

Because thoughts

Of you

Were with me

I sang

The last song

I ever sang to you

And it ripped my heart

Like claws

I let thoughts

Of you

Fill my head

Because then I lived

Those moments

Over again

And again

I heard your laugh

Saw your smile

And I cried

I wished I could grab you

And pull you

Lonely

How sad she looked in the muddy street,
As the world went rumbling by,
"Help me,"  she whispered to the trotting feet,
But no one heard her cry.

Perhaps a passer stopped to look,
But none would stop to aid
So to her knees she sadly took
And through her tears she prayed,

And as she knelt in pouring rain
The sun shone through the clouds
And made a little shining stain
Of light upon the crowds
