Emptiness

Submitted by Clare Marie on Thu, 07/09/2009 - 01:29

I saw a doe and deer go bounding through the trees;

And turning I reached to take your hand

And show the sight to you.

But all I touched was empty air.

I felt a leaf brush against my cheek;

And stooping I bent to pick it up

And let your cheek feel it too.

But sullen trees were my only companions.

I danced in the crashing ocean tide;

And laughing I called aloud your name

Lament from a Lonely Heart

Against fire black and whips of flame
You stood your ground, stooped with pain
You leaned on your staff, wizened but strong
You struck his sword, mocked his thong
At last you cast him down from on high,
Morgoth's soldier; then tell me why
You lingered at that fateful moment,
Falling in a fiery torrent?
How could you, so great, the victor
Be dragged cruelly down, Mithrandir?
Friend, my friend, I am lost without you
I cannot see what I should do
You were ever there, guiding me
How can I guide, I foresee?

White Snow Is Falling

Submitted by E on Fri, 09/19/2008 - 18:02

White snow is falling.

The white doves are singing.

The children are playing.

The dog is watching.

With all of these things that are happening,

The horse is only staring

From his lonely pasture.

No friends,

No grass,

No children squealing and playing beside him.

Just staring.

Only staring.

But the cat is daring.

He climbs the fence to the horse's scowling face.

The cat jumps happliy

Upon the staring horse's back

And gives him warmth.

A friend.

Lonely

Plastered on the once blue skies,
These drab clouds are rolling by,
I've never seen a sadder day,
Now I'm all alone.

Roses wilting, once so red,
A path of valor, soldiers bled,
Fades into distant memory,
Now I'm all alone.

Long forgotten and packed away,
Pictures of loved ones lost in the fray,
The tears that fall, let them be,
Now I'm all alone.

[[Note: This is my first poetry in awhile. I would like criticism so I can get better, but try not to be too harsh. :)]]

Shadows

Submitted by Nikki on Tue, 09/11/2007 - 23:55

There are shadows
of you
in this empty room - places
your fingers have
touched and moments
you've breathed
that we can't take back
and I wouldn't
want to, anyway.
Everywhere I find
little pieces of
your life
left as souvenirs
of this brief
togetherness.
Your voice echoes in my
loneliness.
Please come back
and make this house
a home again.
