Maroon's Song

Submitted by Sarah Liz on Mon, 08/08/2016 - 04:03

World, I heard the lyrics that you sing
I’ve felt the pain that false love brings
I know the dark of depths of woe
I’ve seen the scars that few will show.

World, even music breathes your lies
Says hope’s sun sets in paradise
That sin’s allure’s your only happiness
But cannot reach eternal bliss.

World, your hope is fleeting, slipping fast
Your art reflects it; but, alas,
Your billions of feet tread the broadened path
That holds destruction in its grasp.

A Writer's Mind

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Thu, 07/21/2016 - 03:54

Midst the tossing and turning of a restless night,
Imagination takes up glorious flight;
Probing for a rhyming pattern new and unique
Or for word choice that our generation will seek.
New stories to give to people both young and old,
Strategic sentences or curious words bold.
Tales of peaceful love or tempestuous passion,
Tripping lyrics of envy or sweet compassion.
A blank space of desert so barren and dreary,
Or mountainous heights to climb; broken, and weary.
A soul full of color but buried deep in dust;

My First Set of Poetry

Submitted by Lucy Anne on Wed, 11/11/2015 - 17:24
So I just finished a poetry unit for my writing classes. I absolutely am curious to see your thoughts! This was my first time ever studying poetry and though my poems are not perfect especially the Petrarch... sonnet which was so difficult for me to write. Have any of you written sonnets? or haikus? - Megan Water Faucet (freeverse)

Poetry Set

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Fri, 10/23/2015 - 14:57

Purpose
Your life has a purpose
Don't ever complain
You must push ahead
Your grumblings are vain
God's given you this day
You must make it your own
All you do and say
Is heard at the throne

Temple
Your body is a temple
Please keep it clean
Furnish with fear, tremble
For God is your king
Purify and make way
Sacrifice your desires of self
Clean them all out
Every one on the shelf

Amazing Lord, Oh Wondrous God

Submitted by Arthur on Tue, 10/06/2015 - 07:25

Oh Lord my God I stand right here,
Do cleanse me now and draw me near.
I pray you'd purify my soul,
Please sanctify and make me whole.

Amazing Lord, oh wondrous God,
To Thee all glory and all laud.
Your mercy sav'd me from my sin.
A gift of grace given to men.

All glory be to Thee dear Lord.
Teach me to wield your holy sword,
Help me instruct and edify
Your image Lord to magnify.

With This I Now Draw Near

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Tue, 09/29/2015 - 17:21

Dear Lord with this I now draw near;
A burden given me to bear.
For strength I ask with my whole heart
That I might carry all, not part.

I am faulty, willing but weak,
That is why Your strength I seek.
So on Your Almighty name I call
Lest under this heavy weight, alone, I fall.

But not quite alone for in silence I hear
That still small voice sounding in my ear.
Reassuring, powerful, sweet and strong;
In my aching heart You give me a song.

One Twenty Nine A.M.

Submitted by Lucy Anne on Wed, 09/16/2015 - 16:57

It is one twenty-nine
and my heart heaves a sigh
for my ears have just heard
some great sad news of a bird.

For my whole life I have known
a dear sweet girl who has shown
gentle spirit and love
with a joy from above.

Four some weeks and a go,
I spent five days away
with her sister and her
in a college alone.

There she told me
she had thought
of one day soon going away
to a state so very far
to teach for two months or more.

You Can Run

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sun, 06/07/2015 - 22:29

Run, yeah run, just as fast as you can,
God will still catch you if it's in His plan.
You can run for a long time or you can sit still;
But you can't hide from God, or from His will.
You can run like a coward or you can stand bold
But God in His might will have His story told.
So stand up tall and always be brave:
Never forget how He conquered the grave.
Spread the gospel far and wide: in every land
'Till His children all rest at His holy right hand.
