Singing

Heartfelt Song

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Wed, 03/06/2019 - 21:19

In the morning I hear a song
It plays so faintly, in my head
It starts while I am yet dreaming
Stretched upon my morning bed
But as the day goes by it grows
And I begin to hum along
For though it is a catchy tune
My heart remembers not the song
But quickly in the afternoon
I pick out the words, here and there
Til dinner comes with fork and spoon
And I am singing, unaware
So by the time I’m off for bed
I’m belting out a wordy song
An anthem of blessed thankfulness
As heartfelt as the day is long

Fitch's Kemper [1]

Submitted by Damaris Ann on Sat, 03/11/2017 - 05:25

Normally, noise of any kind was unwelcome in the Texas University's private library, but somehow that same mellow voice was allowed to croon on by the hour.

It was also normal for Byron Fitch to be annoyed by even the slightest rustle of a page while he was studying, but today was different. The odd medley of sacred hymns and pop songs came across as ridiculously soothing when hummed by Kris Kemper's low voice.

Debut

I walked up the church steps, butterflies already fluttering around in my stomach. A few kids admired my guitar case, which was covered in stickers.

“Thanks,” I said, “but it’s actually not mine...it’s my teacher’s one.”

They nodded, and went back to their game of chase-around-the seats-without-tripping-over-them game. I turned my attention to the programme of the day which I snatched from a nearby table. I gasped when I saw my name; my song was fourth on the sheet.

I saw my friends, who came up from behind and hugged me.

The Pledge of the Disciple (Direct the Way): the 2nd Song

Submitted by j. Glen pollard on Tue, 10/28/2014 - 00:53

(Verse 1)
Where should I go?
I am betwix two paths
Having the desire to pursue my LORD
It’s for the King I am fighting for

(Chorus)
Where You go I will follow
Trailing like a second shadow
As I read Your Word I will grow
I’ll stand by You all my days
Every day I will say
Direct the Way!

(Verse 2)
From my great confusion
(Jesus) You deliver out of peril
You put my feet on solid ground
Stray from You I will never

Hidden Paths

Submitted by The Way on Wed, 11/07/2012 - 17:58

Hidden in the shadows
Of a forest
Beneath the undergrowth
Is a wild path
Whispers of the trees
Guide the way
Songs of the Birds
Just ahead, but never in sight
Shaped by your thoughts
Never still, but moving
Follow the path of your dreams

Comrade Song: Two of Three

Submitted by Anna on Thu, 12/29/2011 - 22:52

Two of Three
Anita’s hands lost their grip on anything but air. She swayed, but she seized rope rail before the cliff fell away under her feet. The darkness seemed to hit a wall a long, long way across from her. She tripped back from the edge, hyperventilating.
The sky flashed. Anita’s hands flew to shield her eyes against the symbol lit on the opposite cliff. It was like two triangles kissing or a bowtie. A long, deep note sounded and lingered, a horn of alarm.
“The rune of emergence. They’re coming.”

In and Out, By and By

Jogging o’er wood and dale,  o'er corn-field-ed hill,  passing through brush so tall, and trickling rivulets cold. Tripping o’er stumpy roots, and thumping in the road, breathing deeply in and out the springy air so cold. Strolling ‘midst grassy way feeling it by and by, picking dandelions off the stem and dozily letting them fly. Whistling far-off and unheard tunes which soar to branches aloof, singing to absent melody while swaying dreamily. Failing, falls the sun below and shadows deepen ‘round the eaves  pulling out a pipe he blows puffing a misty, thoughtful haze.
