Proud As a Peacock

Submitted by SURPRISINGPERSON on Mon, 12/24/2018 - 22:56

Most everyone has seen a peacock,
Strutting around, head high, tail on display,
Bragging about how manly and virile he is;
Putting on an extravagant show.
Then, there's the peahen.
She is quiet and doesn't show off,
But even though her colors are drabber,
She has an understated elegance.
Her mate, the peacock, is all show,
And not that graceful either.
Where did all that pride come from?
True, he is beautiful,
But what difference does that make?
In the end, all he does is strut, while

Thoughts on Pride and Human Frailty

When I sit in quiet and in peace -- though perhaps not peace in my own heart -- I am strongly aware of the fact that pride is my worst sin. Pride in that I think I can do my tasks well on my own; pride in that I do not admit my mistakes; pride in that I hesitate to ask questions at the risk of looking like a fool; pride in my dealings with others, where I make assumptions about their lifestyles, and become satisfied with myself for not being like them. C.S. Lewis said that "a cold, self-righteous prig who goes regularly to church may be far nearer to hell than a prostitute".

Our Joan of Arc

She rode on a white horse,
that unforgettable day
she sat, back straight
head held high
the reigns in her hand
dressed all in white
like the lady warrior
she had pride in her eyes
a fight in her spirit,
our Joan of Arc

She rode on a white horse
and led us,
we marched,
flags waving, banners high
our hearts beating defiantly,
strength and hope and pride
and our warrior rode
like she was riding into battle
so brave,
our Joan of Arc

Becuase She is Proud

She was wrong--
she won't admit it
She is lonely--
she won't let you see it

She is trapped--
but she won't say so
She is sad--
but she won't cry

She is broken--
but she refuses to crack,
She is searching
for what life seems to lack

She's alone in a crowd--
but she puts on a smile
and acts fine for a while
becuase she is proud

I am strong, I am proud.
i am fierce and i am loud.
I hold myself with dignity and try
my best to make you flee.
I, I am a marine.

I am taught to use my head if i didn't i could be dead.My home is above the earth flying flying like a bird.
I keep it cool and keep my mind protect the homeland from the skies.
I show no remorse for i am of the Air Force.
