Her Name

Submitted by Hannah W. on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 23:25

Steady, her name
balanced its sword or spear or pole
to fight, or to throw, or to catch a fish
gleaming in the sun?
No one knows.

Strong stood the feet of her name;
her letters spilled and pooled and stayed
firm in serifs and type,
and curled at the edges like old paper chains
gilded golden with light.

Her name, teasing loops
of a soft-spun web or a knotted rope
cast to the water, wide-flung her net--
what sought she to catch within
those loosely woven threads?

My Name

Stand up there and speak to us
about hope and about pain
There are so many words you're saying,
but all I wanted was my name

Which word, in which language,
which of them is mine?
Will I find it in the valley,
or on the mountains that I climb?

Who will speak it to me,
who will say, "You are this"
Some people say you find yourself
others say you have to wish

I wonder if the great blue heron
holds it in his bill
I wonder if it's with my fathers
buried in a hill

Hello again

Hi, everyone. I haven't been on here in a while. I have been flooded with story ideas but so no one can steal it I haven't been posting much. But as always, I am indecisive and need your help.

Names

Why do some people name their children strange names,
Which sometimes bring to them shames?
And not just their kids but their pets too,
And it’s almost as if to Weirdo-land they flew.

For instance take Fluffy,
Now that is just too stuffy.
Some names are crazy,
Between you and me, I think the parents were just being lazy.

Nick-names are also really silly,
Silly like, Tilly and Dilly.
And what’s worse, if you knew mine,
I would jump up in a big pine.
