Greyscale World

Submitted by little woman on Sat, 01/19/2013 - 20:20

I wonder
what life would be like,
if things were black and white.
The path to choose would always be clear -
whether to go or whether to stay
turn left, turn right
don't go there; it has no light.
The right thing to say would always be near,
if this life was black and white.
Grey issues no more
would creep through the door;
Confusion no longer trouble my sleep.
My days would be peaceful,
free of remorse
my nights content and untroubled.
Yet perhaps we are meant
to live and to learn

The Cliffs

Submitted by Hannah W. on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 04:11

The cliffs of the sea, stunted and black
stretch crookedly in a line between
the land and the sea. And me,
I am well content
with windowsills collecting dust,
and apples every fall 'til come famine or flood.

A dissatisfied grin, a shambled gate:
the cliffs are strung out like skeleton teeth.
Or the teeth of a rake left out in the rain
for too long. And I chose
to stride one side, plant my seeds and feet
rather than water, and drifting for weeks.

Sparrow

Submitted by Hannah W. on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 16:51

Am I to be a spider, laying traps
casting nets
spinning webs—
always hungry,
and never speak—
until my hair is silver as my thread?

I think I should be instead
a careless sparrow, and fly where I may
and land where I please.
Be plain-feathered and plain of song
so none will wish to cage me.

But I will let myself be tugged down
by gravity, or bread.
And I will perch in hand or bush
and be still when I will and have my peace
and be fed.

It's Not That Simple ((Chapter Nine)) Yeah, the last one was a FAKE!

Hey Guys!

Okay, so, I was going to make last chapter a real one, but I realized how much I didn't like it. Ugh. So, I'm going to force myself to write a better one since you all deserve it for reading my story. Sorry...it's been a month and four days since I last posted it, and it will probably be August 1st before this goes through and is approved. SO....please enjoy!

Pathway

Submitted by Raine on Sun, 05/20/2007 - 21:29

The path stretches before me,
Speckled with fallen leaves
It waits.

The air is still and silent.
Like the hour before a storm...
It waits.

Snow lays on the ground
Firmly hushing the world.
It waits.

The clouds are heavy and gray,
Filled with soft, light crystals.
They wait.

Birds light on the ground,
Huddling close together,
They wait.

The entire earth holds its breath,
Silent, unmoving and anxious.
Waiting.
