The Snow King

SEEMS familiar, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because it’s the title of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson called The Snow Queen, which recently was adapted into a Disney animated film called Frozen.
Now this is not a fairy tale about a prince who can freeze things and make it snow in July. This is about me and my experience sledding!

Snow, Snow, from the Gray, Gray Sky

Snow, snow,
from the gray, gray
sky
white and glistening
where rooftops blend
into smooth gray sky
and blackbirds sit
on the wires overhead
crisscross stark
against gray, gray
like bark on the maple
out behind the fence
reaching up, up, up,
like reaching hands
stretching fingers
tring to catch the big, thick flakes
as they fall, fall
and there's so much world here
my boots crashing through
silent steps
cries of delight
ringing through gray, gray
sky

Snowy Night

Stretching hands

Searching the night

Groping the air

Looking, finding, holding

Coveting the night in breathy amaze

Outspread tongues

Tasting the night

Drinking the air

Hoping, catching, breathing

Swallowing the night in chilly gasps

Dancing feet

Sweeping the night

Riding the air

Twirling, leaping, spinning

Imprinting the night in dreamy footsteps

Eager hands

Promising night

Unearthly air

Snowflakes

"Molly, it's snowing!" a petite red headed girl shouted down the hall.
There was a small (and painfully loud) joyus shreik from the other room and another redheaded girl of perhaps five burst out. She rushed past her sister with her firey curls flying out behind her.
